They came to our towns and Cities on the back of Eritrean Tanks and robbed the country of its resources and its sovereignty from day one. Now Tigreans are getting tired of the parasites and starting to confront them at every bend. The sham election is said to a window dressing to fool those who still think that TPLF is a relevant entity. As PM Abiy, in his latest interview with EBS indicated, the war drum from TPLF is a last cry before they are buried 12 feet under. He went on to say that, if war was the option, it would only take a very short amount of time to undo the renegades. However, considering the collateral damage the war could inflict on the poor Tigreans, the option is a no go for now.

Capital Flight and its Determinants: The Case of Ethiopia

This study attempts to estimate the volume of capital flight from Ethiopia and its determinants, focusing on economic, institutional, and political determinants. Capital flight is estimated at $31 billion over the 1991–2012 periods. On average, the country has lost over 1 billion per annum during the EPRDF regime. The empirical evidence suggests that macroeconomic instability, the degree of financial market deepening, exports, interest rate differentials, political instability, corruption, and debt‐creating flows are the most important determinants of capital flight from Ethiopia. The political environment is also found to be crucial. Generally, capital flight was high before violent regime changes and low in the subsequent periods, when regimes were in the process of establishing a firmer grip on power; after this point, however, capital flight began to rise significantly again. The historical analysis points to potential causality running from political factors to capital flight.

The average annual outflow was $2.6 billion during 2004 and 2013. This is a sizeable sum of money by any standard. For instance, according to estimates reported by the World Bank, the amount of official development assistant (ODA) Ethiopia received in 2010 was $4 billion but total amount of IFFs during that year was $5.6 billion.

This means in 2010 alone Ethiopia’s IFFs exceeded the ODA it received that year by $1.6 billion. In other words, Ethiopia’s IFFs amounted to diverting the entire aid money of 2010 to foreign banks and then still transfer abroad an additional sum of money.

During the entire period (2004 to 2013) the total amount of money that Ethiopia lost due to IFF was $26 billion. This amounts to stealing nearly $300 per citizen. Alternatively, the size of stolen money was about 11 times the total the amount of emergency aid being sought from donors in the current year to buy cereals from abroad and feed the drought victims.

An upcoming report by Global Financial Integrity finds that Ethiopia, which has a per-capita GDP of just US$365,lost US$11.7 billion to illicit financial outflows between 2000 and 2009. More worrying is that the study shows Ethiopia’s losses due to illicit capital flows are on the rise. In 2009, illicit money leaving the economy totaled US$3.26 billion, which is double the amount in each of the two previous years.

You saw it so accurately. The whole time I was watching the clip, I was impressed by how confident and determined the soldiers are. They are so eager to lunge at the enemy at the shortest order. TPLF has no chances to stand against such determined warriors. What a miscalculation !!

If you see the war in the lens of Amara elites and Amhara politics, your opinion could be absolutely right. Besides the current situation is only a month old. You might tell me everything is under control given how much area of Tigray is under the army. but that does not tell the whole story.
Yes TPLF have limited options to continue with the war due to geography. They might find it difficult to have continuous supply to keep fighting in any form. But there are developing issues out side Ethiopia that might affect the whole situation in Ethiopia. Government tells its citizens everything is under control again and again just to calm citizens and gain support for what is going on. That is called politics. For example government was saying they have destroyed the so called OLF-shanee several time for the past two years. But still blames OLF shanee for committing atrocities.
Derg was feeding the public that everything is under control until 1988/89 when they no longer can lie about the situation. EPRDF did the same for some extent.
So i am not sure how things develop in year or so. One thing i am sure about is that things are not as under control as the government wants us to believe.
So even if i am disappointed with the current Ethiopian politics, i still hope Dr Abiy will implement the politics he promised when he came to power. That means he has to make some adjustments. Mind you politics sometimes is about perception. For example the perception of PM Abiy among some Oromos is that he is promoting Amhara politics. It is only PM Abiy who can prove this people wrong. Otherwise some facts on the ground support the perception i mentioned above. Take yourself for example: You are confident things are on the right direction ( possibly you are amhara and think amhara is beneficiary from the war). Me (non amhara) on the other hand have reservation. I am in the category of wait and see.

I don't know why you like to speculate but what this clip proves is that the Oromo Warriors are in the heart land of Tigrai, Mekelle , conducting a house to house search and displaying their bounty. You are denigrating the struggle of the Oromo people against their pressor by denying them of the credit they rightfully earned chasing TPLF away.
