Justo,
 you must be an agame to wish modernizing our capital city to the levels of Jimma, Assosa, or Mekelle airport.
I agree with your comment 100%, just being sarcastic

Personal experience, few years ago we traveled to Eritrea and we had teenager cousins who were visiting Eritrea for the first time, before we traveled we told them how Eritrea is modern and all that... we landed in Asmara and the first thing was we went to the restroom and it was embarrassing without going into detail... by the way our transit was Dubai so the comparison was no fair of course... the teenagers with us at the time now college students were asked to go with us again summer 2020 (trip canceled due to corona) and their response was no thank you. We’ll pass... Eritrea lost potential tourist for a long time.
We went to Beautiful old Havana, Cuba a year before that Trip and reminded me of Eritrea.
Eritrea and Cuba are cursed with the disease of hybrid socialist communist mindset at the highest level. China was a victim of that disease until the 1980. Issu doesn’t see the value of moderation of the capital and unfortunately Asmara will decay until he dies. The man has a flawed way of thinking when it comes to development and stuck ideology of the 1960’s.
You got to give him credit for outlasting the enemy # 1 of yesterday dead tplf, but wishing Asmara to modernize is dead on arrival,... not gonna happen under the current leadership.
The good thing is the warsay generation has learned a lot and knows clearly the contrast of yesterdays experience and on how to take the country to the vision —-EritreanS have for it ,prosperous and developed

Hmmm......Agames and your anecdotal evidence never end.

Here is another version for you......

Somehow I was just wondering had the fraction of the money your Agames wasted on your 'feel-good' projects spent on buying things like......chemicals to fight locusts, would it have saved us from the images that are coming from your god forsaken kilil?

What is mind boggling to me is, as people who exist by the goodwill of the western world, you should be the last people to lecture anyone about modernity or civility. Retard!

BTW: Justo is a proud Eritrean and he has every right to demand from the government whatever he deems is good for Eritrea!

The picture below is from Italy -- the generous country that has been digging water wells in Tigray for the last 27 years! The old buildings shown in the picture are famous tourist attractions in Italy. When an agame refugee who crossed the Mediterranean sea to seek refuge in Italy saw these old buildings, he thought he found something to bludgeon the country that has given him shelter, but what the low IQ ungrateful soul failed to realize was that, Italians believe demolishing a building or structure of historical significance is no different than destroying a piece of their own history. The joke is on you illiterate agame! If your thirst for knowledge was as strong as your thirst for water, you could be digging your own wells to restore your human dignity, if you have any.

Italians say: Chi dorme non piglia pesci!
Meaning: he who sleeps doesn't catch any fish.

Hi Justo,

Although I understand you've raised a fair question; for various reasons, I'm afraid the issue would devolve into simple black and white.......and I usually shy away from reducing issues to the level of 'the devil made me do it' kind of argument like our neighbour's IQ63 cadres usually do....

Let me frame your question in a different way:

Why did the government choose to build huge dams and many micro dams, tying down virtually all cement the nation were able to produce, instead of building residential houses?

Why did the government opt to build more higher education institutions, schools, health care facilities, instead of building a fancy airport?

What has been the reasons for the government's proclivity on building the infrastructure of the country using its own meagre resources, instead of taking out large extrernal loans?

How did the government manage to import and subsidize various oil, medicine, cereals and food products, etc.... while Eritrea's export sector is virtually non-existent?

How do you think the sanction and other external pressures impacted the economy? Would any other nation survive that kind of outside slaughter, for instance Zimbabwe with relatively well-developed post-colonial economy and oil-rich Venezuela, let alone poor African nations?

Of course, I don't have all the answers, I don't think anyone has. The point is, the issue is much more complex.......

Policies, instutuions, personalities, historical contexts, and global events all should be factored in in assessing the big picture. Of course, a bird's eye view would get me the basic tenet of Economy- priority is necessiated by the scarity of resources.......If it had not been for that limiting factor, it would have been nice to have all the colleges, health care facilites, roads, airports.......free bread for all etc.

Even at a personal level, my wife is insisting we should save for our two young kids college, rather than me salivating on that 'babe-magnet' Ferrari I would like to purchase  .........C'est la vie!

Cheers!

For the same reason, the regime constructed the airport in Massawa worth 70 million USD with out doing any adequate feasibility study. We all know the result don't we?

quindibu wrote:Why did the government opt to build more higher education institutions, schools, health care facilities, instead of building a fancy airport?

When Eritreans are heading to Sudan for minor medical procedure, Do you even dare to claim that we have health care facilities in Eritrea? In terms of your so called higher education; when the dictator admitted that 20 years was a waste of time and that he has failed to equip the new generation with enough knowledge, who are you to say otherwise?

Eritrea is indebted to its throat, 3.5 billion US dollar which is 174% of its GDP, hence cut the crap that Eritrea doesn't have any external loans.

Which medicine are you talking about, the existing so called medicine in Eritrea are expired and on the top of that, they are produced in Bangladesh. That is the primary reason why Eritreans take a risky journey to Sudan to receive medical treatment.

Bro quindibu, you're absolutely right and Fiameta is also absolutely right that it is a matter of priorities, a matter of limited resources, a matter of having been busy defending yourself against a vicious enemy, so all that is legit. I am not even talking about the past, but about the future.

Societies can and should multi-task. We spend money on football, cycling, the Olympics that could have been spent on other worthy projects, but these things are deemed to be important by society and we have no qualms in seeing them compete for the merger resources that we have.

Humans are psychological beings, as Jesus said, it is not only bread they need, but also a social and physical environment that they can thrive in. We know about the one-broken window policy of the US, how such things lead to other things and so on and so on.

Image is important to humans, even in the earliest archeological remains from modern human societies 30-50 000 years back, we see them going to a great length to spend meager resources on personal and physical environment. It is not as if we are not multi-tasking now either, we are and we could get even better at it. That was how Lee Kwan Yew framed it when he embarked on modernising his society, he wanted to create a physical environment that would transform his people.

As to the trolls who have joined the discussion with glee, I've more in common with Fiameta and agree more with Fiameta than with anyone of them, dman I agree even more with her than with myself on the issue at hand, so they are scavenging for left-overs and that is what they best do, and we know how to best deal with them.

Did you say Lee Kwan?  The reason why Singapore become a wealthy, prosperous and industrialized country is because it had access to Western capital and know how. Singapore's former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, in his 1967 interview with the American MEET THE PRESS TV program by a panel of journalists, when asked why Singapore didn't send troops to Somalia Vietnam to fight against the insurgency as other Asian countries did, he said...
"Singapore is not a client state of the United States -- I am not in receipt of your aid nor am I here to seek aid. I am doing all right, I hope to do more trade with you. And I don't think it is the duty of the elected representative, leader, of Singapore to go in and involve his country in a situation which can end disastrously for his whole people. You tell me what happens to all your allies who have gone in with you in South Vietnam." (Smirk)
Doesn't he sound like the great President Isaias Afewerki? Lee Kuan Yew's principled stance and interview answers didn't sit well with the client states in Asia that didn't believe life exists outside the box they were in, and it's not surprising to see today that the Asian countries that contributed troops to Vietnam are the major contributors of maids and unskilled labor to Arab countries, and to Singapore! Does that sound familiar?

እየ ሽርጣሙ :P you forgot Eritrea was at war for the last 70 years. We just got a break and of courses. And what is Eritrea airport to more than 3.5 millions of Eritreans who are living outside Asmara? Priority damn it.

I watch the trip Antony Bourdin, without reservation show host to Addis and he stayed at high end hotel in the town and got chance to visit what Addis offers the best. However, in his trip out of Addis, he said outside Addis you meet the real Ethiopia we know. Now tell me how you use the limited resources you had wisely? Unlike Antony observations about Ethiopia, Eritrea is beautiful when you leave Asmara, you will find clean water, nice farm and well maintained topography, hundreds of large and small dams.

Remember to build one dam required millions tons of cements which can build at least 20 high rise buildings and trout 10 dams can build three Jimma Airport. That is how high IQ society prioritize things.

Isiaias visited Jimma and Asosa and on the news videos we could see that Asosa and Jimma airports seemed to be more modern than Asmara airport. There is absolutely no excuse for this. Isaias has to work to transform and modernise Eritrea, and this means modern facilities everywhere including the cities. He has no time to waste in this and development projects in far-off regions are no substitutes for this.

Deki:

Well Said !! Exactamente !!

Wedi Medhin Berad errand boys like to invoke the name of Dr. Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore to strike similarities with the Village Idiot Dictator Hasad Isayas. These errand Bıtches are really Jokers.

The late Dr. Lee Kuan became the Prime Minister of Singapore after his party PAP won majority of the seats in the legislative democratically following the Country's New Constitution.

In Wedi Medhin Brad Dictatorial Rule, Eritrea is the sole property of the Village Idiot Isayas. No Rule of Law, No Institutions, No Parliament, No Constitution... The Village Idiot rules Eritrea on a whim, and on the fly.

My Adwa Weyane brothers Sabur, Afdeyu and Deqi Arawit are not doing our country Tigray a favor by injecting themselves into conversations between Eritrean patriots. If my Weyane brothers want to impress us, they need to take their knees off the Tigray people's necks, and then and only then may the Eritreans start to take their comments seriously. Anything short of that is a big embarrassment for all of us Tegaru watching our hypocrite Weyane brothers making a fool of themselves. ዋይ ዋይ ዋይ ዋይ! ዘይሓንኩ መሕፈርቲ!

Fiameta takes the cake on this. It’s priority priority priority. First, we export the youth in mass, then we can begin building our country. priority priority priority.

The hasad should expect his government to deliver as a matter of our people deserving it, not in reaction to development in Assossa or Jimma. The crab mentality is deep as the ocean.

Dedebit graduate Awetash.
Regardless what Ethiopians or any one say. The dictator came and saw the projects like he owns it, 8) while the people who embarked on the project are hiding like rats in Axum hotel. and the legacy of Meles is bad in Ethiopia, it resulted in the chasing season of Tigrians all over Ethiopia like wild hogs. This is indeed legacy!

The presence of the dictator in Eritrea is suffocating Tigrians and render them useless people with useless region. Deal with this anta Qomal! Where is Teff?
