Raya -Rayuma Democratic party --- the new addition

Post by Za-Ilmaknun » 09 Mar 2020, 19:24

Rayan's now seem to have organized themselves as Rayas and forming an ethnic based party that they said would represent the interest of their people. The Raya people have historically been administered under the Wello province before TPLF came to power and divided the Raya in to Tigray and Amhara regions. Most observers believe that Rayas have, as a community, more in common with the Amharas than Tigreans. In order to expropriate the fertile planes of Raya, TPLF is belived to have come up with this unfortunate scheme of dividing the Raya community. It has been an open secret that most of Raya azebo is now occupied by settlers who came from other Parts of Tigrai.

"As part of the arrangements, ethnically non-Tigrayan and non-Tigrigna speaking communities from the then Gondar and Wollo kifle-hagers (now parts of Amhara Regional State) became part of Tigray Regional State. Members of these communities were never happy at their inclusion in Tigray, but the TPLF largely crushed any resistance.

When the Rayan people asked to be recognized as Rayan in 1993, the Tigray authorities responded to peaceful demonstrators with live bullets. Eyewitnesses said Tigray’s government detained youth en masse and killed students.

The issue then simmered for decades.

According to Abate Wolde, a community leader in Waja–Timuga, in July 2018, the confrontation between regional security forces and the people of Waja-Timuga caused the death of two young men, Alemu Biruye and Adino Belay. The community leader said that as a result the federal government sent the military and deployed two battalions in the Waja-Timuga area. Following the deployment of the battalions, the regional forces left the area and settled in the Mehony area.

The Rayan Identity and Self Administration Grand Committee leaders Dejene Assefa and Agezew Hidaru said that on on Aug. 17, the head of the security forces deployed in Korem shot dead an innocent person who went by the name Zinabu America. These sources ascertain that the only thing that the victim said was: “I am not a Tigraway, I am a Rayan; and Korem is not Tigray, it is Raya.”

As many Ethiopians, certainly including Tigreans, know very well, Raya was part of Wollo, one of the regions of what is now Amhara regional state, before it was annexed as part of Tigray after 1991.

Of course, the people of Raya did not ask for a Tigrean identity nor they were consulted when the ethnic based Federal arrangement included Raya in a way to be party of Tigray.

That was when and how identity question was created in Raya. Obviously, it was suppressed for well over twenty years but simmering underneath. In recent years, the question is resurfacing when the time came for it. The movement to throw away imposed Tirgrean identity and get back Raya identity is becoming bolder and stronger in recent months so much so that the regional state in Tigray had to deploy security forces to crack it down.

Many ethnically diversified countries favored federalism as a best means of accommodation for linguistic, cultural and territorial autonomy interests of their people. Accordingly, Ethiopia has adopted ethnic based federalism since 1991 which enabled some ethnic groups to establish their own sub-national governments (regions). Yet this system hardly became attractive for internal national minorities (i.e. an ethnic groups who forms majority in one region but minorities in another region) since the procedure of protection controlled by regional majorities and high degree of systematic assimilation. This book, therefore, examines the procedure for recognition and protection of internal minorities under Ethiopian constitutional system and how the absence of constitutional protection affects cultural, linguistic, and political rights of such groups by giving special emphasis on the case of Raya Oromo in Tigray region. It scrutinizes the issue in light with international law, Ethiopian constitution and regional constitution. The analysis would help as insight for political scientist, government officials and constitutional drafter s to conduct further research and use it as input.

That is the sad reality of that region. TPLF also have murdered most of the men in WolQait and Tselemt regions and took their women to repopulated the areas by people from their base. They are experts in applying cruel and brutal mechanisms to fulfill their dream of being the myth invented in their nightmare. :x

Raya is always Abysinnian province no gallu so good in fact Hatse Yohanes should have went further to exterminate the Gallas of Wollo to I would support it

Hatse jeganu Tewodros also tried to destroy gallu in Wollo but the Lootie unchristian British distracted him from bringing Amhara identity back to Wollo

Now it’s Shewa and Gondar time to kill Wollo galla exterminate them!!!!

Rename Wollo to Gondar and Shewa names

Split south Wollo for shewans and gondares to be resettled

Raya has been part of Tigray. It is after 1957, Haile Selassie put Raya Kobo including Korem and Alamata under Wollo. Raya is not Amhara. There are amhara settlers in Qobo, but the whole of Raya Rayuma has been in loose association with Tigray. The main language in Raya Rayuma is Tigrigna, 95% percent of the population speaks Tigrigna. The Tigrigna in Raya is different from the Tigrigna in Agame and Eritrea. The Raya do not speak Amharic. They see Amharic as something inferior. But they do use some Amharic words. The Orthodox Church in Raya sings and preaches in Geez and Tigrigna. However, Agames and Adwans are more like Eritreans and anti-ethiopia. Rayans do not like Agame, Adwans and Eritreans because they are poor and erratic.
