"... After independence, the first thing we needed was to secure our water supply. We must have drinking water. So it was important for us to use every drop of water that came down from the sky (Rain water). We decided to clean all the rivers, and the clean drinking water made a different quality of life possible (it raised life expectancy and greatly reduced infant and maternal mortality rate.) All we had was this tiny island and its location, so we built up the infrastructure to make it a first-world oasis in third world region. We aimed for first-world standard of infrastructure, maintenance and human behavior....." --- (Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew)

Why did we build 800 dams since 1991?

May the people of Ethiopia gain wisdom. I hope Ethiopia will increase the current 15% of the population with access to clean water to at least 50%.

In 1949, there were only 22 dams of any significant size in China. But today China has over 25,000 dams of all sizes, which means that China has more than half of the almost 50,000 dams in the world. Amazing!

"Would anybody be interested in Singapore if it were a failure?", asked Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew in reaction to fake news media reports about Singapore.

Just like self-reliant Eritrea, Singapore was also at the receiving end of an avalanche of negative Western media/press coverage since the country took a sharp turn towards being a smart and a high IQ nation, adopting and practicing the principles of self-reliance by favoring human dignity over crippling aid dependency, and establishing an education system that achieved higher literacy rate vital for economic development,..etc.

The people in Singapore's largest neighbor, Malaysia, got so addicted to reading negative Western press reports about Singapore that they joined the choir demonizing Singapore, and some were even predicting its failure and demise. :P

But as years went by, and it became very apparent that the high IQ Singaporeans were immune to fake news reports about their country, and went on to achieve an extraordinary success in making their country great, it was the Malaysians who started flocking into Singapore in search for work as day laborers and house maids. Today, almost every Singaporean household has at least one or two Malaysian maids who call themselves "የመዳም ቅመሞች". (No pun intended.)

What is the most important, water or electricity?

In terms of basic human survival, water is generally considered more important than electricity as humans can only survive a few days without water, while electricity is not essential for immediate survival, although it is crucial for quality of living in developed societies.

When our neighbors are fighting wars over water, we Eritreans will sit back, kick off our shoes, grab some popcorn, and enjoy the show. :P :P

Since 1991, we built over 800 medium to large sized dams across Eritrea, capturing every drop of rain water to fill the dams, thus enabling our farmers to use modern farming machinery and irrigation scheme to harvest crops 3 times a year, recording a bumper harvest almost every year. Self-reliance at its best! 8)

We, the Eritreans are unfortunate to be located in the wrong part of the world. Especially the country that know of the lowest IQ of planet earth.

We built over 800 dams in less than 30 years -- a great feat unprecedented in African history!
