Somaliland has been functioning on its own since 1991, without Somalia, this is not based on me wishing for anything, but it's based on reality.
You can get emotional, and drop tears on your keyboard as you furiously type away, all you want; it won't change anything on the ground.
While it's true that the SNM didn't pose a true threat until 1988, when it carried out an offensive, which led to a brutal counter-offensive from siad barre that killed tens of thousands and made about 500,000 Northern Somalis flee into Ethiopia, they eventually entered the north victorious; hence the reason why they would become the government up there.
