President Isaias Afwerki received, at the Denden Guest House this morning, Ambassador Xue Bing, China's Special Envoy to the Horn. The discussions centered on progress in Eritrea-China strategic ties as well as regional / international issues of mutual importance to both countries
In regard to bilateral economic cooperation, President Isaias underlined the dividend that accrues to both sides & stated that Eritrea has finalized all preparations for expanded cooperation. In this context, Eritrea will participate at forthcoming FOCAC Summit in Beijing in September
In regard to peace & stability in the Horn, President Isaias stated that bilateral, & as necesary, regional forums and mechanisms - and not alternative modalities - are indeed the viable & indispensable architectures that can yield tangible results.
Ambassador Xue Bing, for his part, expressed China's full appreciation for Eritrea's independent, principled & non-aligned foreign policy as well as the importance it attaches to Eritrea's vital role in the promotion of peace & stability; especially in the Horn of Africa region
