Why not use Djibouti's port?
Is it because Djibouti cancelled UAE's port operation contracts in favor of China? Oh, I forgot, you are your master's keeper.

Dude, it is called diversification! Example, Ethio is using Lamu for Fertilizers, Berbera for something else, Puntland for Livestock, Djibouti for something else and more.....A great growing nation can't depend on a single unstable port. Consider the debacle in the Red Sea! Now consider if Ethio was dependent on Assab only. Right now our economy would have been shut down.
There is also killing two birds with one stone. Djibouti needs to be punished and cut to its size. Djibouti was getting so puffy that it refused to facilitate shipment less than some unreal amount there by destroying middle level importers etc.
And, in this enemy infested geography, yes Ethiopia must use any available ally such as UAE as well as play the game of diplomacy and geopolitics to its ability.
In short, respect Ethiopia! This great nation, this great people will be around for a loooooong time! አበቃሁ!
