What real estate can be owned? Abiy Ahimed needs foreign currency. He will retake whatever he sells you or demolish it at his pleasure. Buy at your own risk.

Ethiopia to let foreigners own property, PM says on state TV
By Reuters

ADDIS ABABA, March 24 (Reuters) - Ethiopia aims to pass legislation to let foreigners own real estate as part of the country's broader plan to open up the economy and attract investors, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said on state TV late on Saturday.
Currently foreigners are barred from owning houses in Ethiopia, either residential or commercial buildings, which is seen as a hurdle to ongoing efforts to attract foreign investment to the Horn of Africa country.

State TV said Abiy told a meeting of large taxpayers in the capital Addis Ababa that his government was finalising a new law to let foreigners own real estate property although he did not say when the legislation would be introduced in parliament.
"We will introduce a law which will allow foreigners to own property," he said, adding that the government also intended to amend existing laws to open up the country's retail sector, which is currently restricted to Ethiopians only.
"It (economy) was closed, but now we will slightly open it. So we want you to be ready as well," he said.
In recent years Abiy's government has been opening up parts of the tightly controlled economy such as telecoms and banking to foreign investment, as part of a plan to boost inflows of foreign capital to drive growth and create jobs for the country of more than 100 million people.

It's a scam to empty the pockets of foreigners. If you are gullible enough to be scammed by this amateur pickpocket, then go ahead and "buy"!

Sami,
Have you followed the discussion with those trusted! business people. The foreigners are Ethiopian diaspora not non-Ethiopian foreigners. It is another trick to rip off poor domestic workers. One business person made wishful projection as follows, He said that there are 4 million Ethio diaspora and he projected about 10% of them could buy houses. That is where this idea of foreign ownership comes from. As we speak real estate falling in value by up to 40% percent due to lack of peace, violation of people's rights and pervasive state organized corruption and looting. People that I know in fact 3 of them just sold their homes to return back to US. So Abiy is dreaming - the diaspora does not want to return home be abused Oromo goons. Moreover as far as America diaspora the established research is eventually only 5% will return to the old country. This is consistent going back to Irish, Jewish migration. So that 10 % is false. If Ethiopia becomes a functioning liveable country only then about 5% will return. If fact in that discussion Abiy was angry and looked frustrated. He actually scared the hell out of those poor merchants. He was so defensive and looked bad worried about Fano & IMF.
