Before the TPLF came to power in 1991, the only Agames in Welkayt were destitute seasonal workers who travelled weeks by foot eating ቆሎ to reach Humera. The native Welkayt people despised these wretches and treated them less than human. It was common to see a miserable Agame dying of malaria or other diseases. They resettled tens of thousands of dirt-poor Agames in the rich farming lands and attempted an ethnic cleansing of the Welkayt people. When the war started in 2020, Agames committed another outrage when they massacred over a 1,000 Welketot in May Kadra. The idea that these settlers and criminals will ever be allowed to go back is as ridiculous as imagining that Agames will ever be allowed in Badme!

Welkayt has never belonged to Agames as this letter by the Agame king Yohannes IV to Queen Victoria, where he writes of Tigray and Welkayt as two different entities, amply proves.

Yes, sesame is right, agames were never considered as humans in the Welqait, the owners of the land. Agames always been a seasonal workers, mostly employed by rich Eritreans there. Like he said after 1991, you had a ball to claim the land as yours; it is laughable indeed.
