The expansion of the airport to Bishoftu has been in the plan for the last 30 years, but there is no real business need yet as the airlines couldn't even manage the current small airport. And honestly speaking, the airport isn't that crowded yet to warrant big expansion.

a medium sized Airport is good for Bishoftu/Debre Zayt + Adama/Nazreth all that is required is expanding the runaways so more planes can land. Also those towns don't even have 300,000 people so their is no point of over-investing there.

I got the info wrong. Absera international will replace Bole. Of course, you are right adama doesn't need mega airport. This location will be 15 to 20 minutes drive on the super 8 lane highway. I am also expecting a bullet train to central Addis.
