You both raise an almost similar question. The issue is not that Ethiopia badly wanted to get involved in Eritrea, but Eritrea province will never ever stop wanting Ethiopia for EPLF made the worst wrong choice that immediately backfired on the people of Eritrea province. It is not like a person undergoing appendectomy to remove painful appendix, Eritrea as a geographic entity is a landmass naturally stitched/glued with Ethiopia – they will continue to siphon off their misery, sufferings, and failure via violence, refuge productions, etc. More importantly, Eritrea has been used as launching pad to attack Ethiopia – historically Turkey, UK, Italy, Egypt etc. used this strip of land to invade and loot Ethiopia. The West and Arab world persistently want to use this strip of land as a gateway to access and control the demographic and economic powerhouse, Ethiopia. However, none of these adversaries historically benefited Eritrea and will never ever benefit them – Eritreans livelihood’s umbilical cord is 100% tied with Ethiopia. That cord is organically the lifeline for Eritrea.

Thus, Ethiopia has no choice other than to take over Eritrea and stop all adversaries entry point. The choice of strategy is up to Ethiopia’s political thoughtfulness and cost effectiveness.
