While their colonizers were living in nice white villas, Eritreans were contained in poor slums and there were separate queues in shops. They were not welcome to have a drink in the cafés with their colonizers. If they were walking along the street and came across an Italian on their way, they had to step off the sidewalk and bow to their white master. They were only allowed to go to school for 4 years, so their education was truncated. The irony is that Eritrea would never have existed as a country if Ottoman, Egypt & Italy hadn’t colonized it.

These extreme segregations & subjugations have left everlasting bitterness & anger & deceitful behavior among veteran Eritreans, which then were passed on to the current generation. That’s why they are continuously insulting Ethiopia, vandalizing European cities & sticking their noses into other people’s matters. Because they don’t feel complete on their own without other references or without belittling others. And yet they are coercive & isolated.
