US Raises Alarm Over Ethiopian Rights Abuses Before IMF Visit

There are more than eighty-five countries in war-torn Ethiopia.

By Simon Marks March 4, 2024

(Bloomberg) -- The US expressed alarm about continuing human-rights abuses in Ethiopia that may impact its ability to secure funding from multilateral lenders, as the International Monetary Fund prepares a mission to the country to discuss a crucial bailout.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s administration has faced growing censure over tactics used by federal army forces to quell violent insurgencies across the country, with alleged extrajudicial killings and drone strikes leaving dozens of civilians dead.

“We continuously monitor the human rights situation in Ethiopia to assess whether there is a pattern of gross violations that would affect US support for international financial institution assistance under the International Financial Institutions Act,” the State Department said in an emailed response to questions. “The US government is alarmed by continuing reports of human rights abuses and violations in Amhara and Oromia which implicate the government and non-state actors.”

The timing of the criticism coincides with preparations by the IMF to send a delegation to Addis Ababa in the coming weeks to discuss an economic program and funding needed to fill an estimated $11.5 billion financing gap the government expects to face over the next four years.

The US is the IMF’s largest shareholder and its most powerful board member, and previously used the IFIA to block IMF funding to Ethiopia during a war in Ethiopia’s northern Tigray region two years ago.

The IMF delegation is expected to arrive in Addis Ababa this month. A spokesman for the fund declined to provide a specific date for the visit.

It's not right but it's okay, It's a fair game because Gallas and their Gurage lapdogs are doing everything in their power to divert public attention away from Gallas’s ongoing atrocity in Amhara region.

This is just the beginning and it's going to get worse, the so called Oromia region and the entire northern war-torn Ethiopia is projected to be one hundred percent desert, drier and hotter in the years to come, there will be millions more people in extreme poverty than there is now, people will fight for everything.

It's American and European pride not the pride of Africa.

Canada, Australia, the United States and its European allies have privately warned war-torn Ethiopia on ties with Russia.

Ethiopian Airlines will be banned from flying to the United States, Europe, Canada, Australia and Japan, if war-torn Ethiopia fails to cut back its ties with Russia, Moreover, Boeing and Airbus will stop supplying Ethiopian Airlines with spare parts and repair manual updates.

Can Ethiopian Airlines survive without Europe and USA? The answer is big no, Ethiopian Airlines won't survive a week without spare parts and repair manual updates from the west.

War-torn Ethiopia is at a crucial crossroads.

The headquarters of the African Union is the answer.

The African Union was formed after the dissolution of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) in 2002 and Addis Ababa was chosen as the headquarters of the African Union, the location of the African Union was chosen by the EU and US, back then, war-torn Ethiopia was a vassal state of the west.

Ethiopia To Open Up Real Estate To Foreign Buyers

Published: March 24, 2024

Nairobi: Ethiopia's Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has unveiled plans to allow foreign nationals to buy real estate and to open up retailing to international companies.

The announcement came as Africa's second most populous country, with about 120 million people, seeks to shore up its finances.

"We will bring in a law for foreigners to own property," Abiy told a meeting of business executives that was broadcast by state media outlets late Saturday.

He said the legislation was in the final stages of being drafted.

In addition, Abiy said the government aimed to ease restrictions in the retail sector and open it up to international players, not just Ethiopians.

The landlocked country has about $28 billion of external debt and is also grappling with sky-high inflation and a shortage of foreign currency reserves.

This must be a joke.

Who in their right mind would buy real estate in war-torn poverty-ridden Ethiopia? I am sure that no foreign buyers in their right mind would want to buy real estate in war-torn landlocked Ethiopia.

Ethiopia will pay for any impact of GERD on Egypt: Irrigation minister

Ahram Online , Thursday 28 Mar 2024

Egypt’s Minister of Irrigation and Water Sources Hani Sewilam warned Ethiopia on Wednesday that any harm caused by the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) to Egypt will come at a cost.

"Any dam constructed along the Nile River affects Egypt. Some impacts are manageable, others are not. Ethiopia will pay for any impact on Egypt one day,” Sewilam said.

Sewilam further asserted Egypt's right to take necessary measures to protect its security if directly threatened by the dam's operation.

Ethiopia’s cry for food falls on the world’s deaf ears

The founder of children’s charity Mary’s Meals is sounding the alarm over the hunger crisis in Tigray and urging immediate action, writes Gary Armstrong

Children holding up strong messages as representatives from Mary’s Meals arrive at Gendet Primary School (Armstrong Kiprotich)

A charity chief has shared a rare and harrowing insight into the unfolding catastrophe in Ethiopia, saying: “It’s as extreme as anything I’ve ever witnessed.”

Mary’s Meals founder Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow is urging people to take immediate action to prevent widespread starvation following a recent trip to the war-damaged region, as the charity launches an appeal to reach children who are facing emergency levels of hunger.

More than 91 per cent of Tigray’s population has been “exposed to the risk of starvation and death” and millions are in desperate need of food aid. The region recently endured two years of deadly civil war that displaced millions and is estimated to have claimed the lives of upwards of 600,000 people.

Interruptions to aid supplies in 2023, compounded by several failed rainy seasons in recent years, have accelerated the region’s humanitarian crisis. Current IPC hunger projections suggest the majority of Tigray is experiencing “emergency” levels of hunger, with predictions that “some households will likely face ‘catastrophe/famine’ by July”.

“The only option we have now is to wait for support, or die in our community.”

(This is the Omo Valley, Protected by Ethnic Federalism.) Tigray is a far cry from the Omo Valley.

This is Gambella lush landscape but low intelligence Tigrayans are not welcome here in Gambella or in other ethnic group regions, Thanks to TPLF Ethnic Federalism.

Poverty in resourceless Tigray is hereditary.

Tigray has always been, is and will continue to remain a miserable poor desert tiny region, It has neither natural resources nor arable land, During the famine of the 1970s, Amharas were resettled in Wollega Zone but thanks to the timely ethnic federalism, Today, people affected by famine are not accepted for resettlement in other ethnic group regions in war-torn Ethiopia.

The two most vulnerable ethnic groups in war-torn Ethiopia are desert dwelling Tigrayan beggars and the nasty looking pickpocket landless Gurage listros.

Ethnic Federalism is the best thing that ever happened to war-torn Ethiopia.

Shipwreck off Djibouti leaves 38 Ethiopians dead

April 09, 2024 By VOA News

A ship carrying Ethiopian migrants sank Monday off Djibouti, killing at least 38 people, according to the International Organization for Migration.

The IOM says 22 people were rescued, the U.N. agency said in a statement.

The ship was traveling to Yemen from Djibouti, the main transit country for migrants attempting to reach Gulf nations from the Horn of Africa.

The route is dangerous and leaves migrants vulnerable to trafficking, kidnapping, arrest and forced recruitment into warring groups.

Djibouti must completely close its border crossings with war-torn Ethiopia.

Six Ethiopian Airlines following each other. April 10, 2024.

Somalia has very quietly closed its northern and northeastern airspace to Ethiopian Airlines, well done, Somali government!

Ethiopian Airlines from and to Middle East, South Asia and East Asia are banned from flying over Somalia’s northern and northeast airspace, This ban means extra flight time and operating costs, Instead of flying Somali region and overflying Somalia’s northern and northeast coastlines to the Middle East and South Asia/East Asia, the flight now goes northeast Ethiopia and flies over Djibouti and Gulf of Berbera also known as Gulf of Aden, Ethiopian Airlines is still flying over Somalia’s southern airspace and Mogadishu.

Somalia earns an estimated $50 million annually simply by allowing Ethiopian Airlines and other Aircraft to cross its airspace.

Back to square one.

War-torn Ethiopia has repatriated a total of 842 Ethiopian asylum seekers, who had been imprisoned in Saudi Arabia, while more than 5000 Ethiopians including women and children are waiting in Djibouti to cross the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait to Yemen in search of a better life.

According to the ministry of foreign affairs of war-Ethiopia, war-torn Ethiopia has repatriated over 50,000 Ethiopians from various countries, including Saudi Arabia, Gulf nations, Djibouti and other African states in the last 9 months, Ethiopia is hell on earth.

A concerned Nigerian woman.

(A Nigerian lady who travelled to Ethiopia has shared her observation after she landed at an airport in the country. In a video, the lady said she noticed that there was not much traffic at the airport, unlike in Nigeria.

The lady, Identified Jennifer Umeh, started to wonder if the people do not travel like Nigerians.Unlike the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, which is always full, Jeniffer said she saw a few travellers.)

Well, Ethiopian Airport was empty because more and more travellers shun Addis Ababa’s Bole International Airport in favour of Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Doha, The United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the Republic of Türkiye are now the leading transit hub for long-haul passengers to Africa, thus the future for Ethiopian Airlines looks bleak.

Middle Eastern airlines now dominate the African skies.

Ethiopian Airlines has experienced a decline in routes to African countries due to fierce competition from Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways, Emirates, Etihad Airways, Saudia Airlines, Flydubai, Oman Air, etc, Slowly but surely, Ethiopian Airlines is being driven out of the African market, Turkish Airlines alone flies to more than 56 destinations in Africa, while Qatar Airways currently serves 31 cities in Africa, Emirates is not far behind, It serves 28 destinations in Africa.

It's over for Ethiopian Airlines, 10-15 years from now there will be no Ethiopian Airlines.

Somalia has two Airlines, Jubba Airways, Somalia’s unofficial national carrier was founded in April 1998 and Daallo Airlines, It needs cargo.

These Middle Eastern airlines nonstop flight are bound for Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Madagascar, South Africa, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and other African countries, They are putting Ethiopian Airlines under threat, It will soon become history.

The end of Ethiopian Airlines is near.
