Mengestu caused immense devastation in Ethiopia, displaying no allegiance to communism, nationalism, or tribalism. He blended his self-centered ego with Ethiopian nationalism, fueled by his disdain for the royal family and his distorted interpretation of communism from so-called socialist ideologies. By presenting himself as both a communist and an Ethiopian nationalist, he perpetrated the most anti-Ethiopian and atrocious acts, relentlessly pursuing Ethiopian nationalists through his loyal supporters. He single-handedly dismantled the painstakingly built intellectual foundation that had taken five decades to establish. With his limited approach, he applied a one-size-fits-all solution to every problem, akin to using a hammer on everything as if it were a nail. Consequently, we find ourselves under the rule of an even more extreme tripartite authoritarian regime, surpassing Mengistu's ruthlessness. The destination of our country under this foolish government remains uncertain, and only time will reveal its ultimate outcome. For anyone who still believes Mengestu was an Ethiopian nationalist, a glance at the state he left Ethiopia in should dispel such notions.
