Ethiopians are Multilingual Cushites, but not Necessarily Multi-national!

Slowly, it is becoming clear that Ethiopians in particular and people of the Horn in general are Cushites, whom the eurocentric “scholars” of Europe tried to divide in to Semetic, Cushitic, Omotic and Nilotic. Actually, the whole people of Ethiopia and the Horn are Cushites, whose father-nation is the Oromo. Simply put, they are all Oromo, who in process started to speak different languages. They are multi-lingual Oromo (Cushites). That is why Oromo nationalists are now more interested in united Ethiopia and integrated Horn of Africa. This is other way of integrating and uniting the Oromo speaking different languages in the Horn. Specially almost all peoples of Ethiopia, Eritrea, Sudan, Djibouti, Somalia and Kenia are Cushites (the Oromo speaking different languages). That is why I dare to say Ethiopians in particular and Hornafricans in general belongs to one nation speaking different languages. We can call the only national identity as Ethiopian or Cush or Oromo. All languages spoken in this region belongs to the Oromo. We need to cultivate all of them in their respective language areas. For this purpose, it is good to have language based federation in the Horn under the leadership of Afaan Oromo. Is Dr. Abiy’s medemer philosophy serving this purpose? Time will show us!

The Cushites (the Oromo) are the pure (true) Ethiopians living in the eastern part of Africa for many tausand years. Abeshanization of the north Cushites began through immigration of the Agazians, Bantunization of the south and west was due to the influence from Bantu people and Arabanization of the east started due to Arab attack on Africa in the past many hundred years. Now it is becoming clear that the Horn of Africa is home of Cushites (the Oromo) since about 10,000 years; thus the Horn can be called Biyyakush (Kush country or Cushland). NB: Oromo is the stalk of all Cushitic nations, including the Solomonized ones, who are now Amarinya and Tigrinya speakers. Solomonization process of Cushites from the North-western side of Biyyakush started about 3000 years ago. This is the time span which the Solomonites call “3000 years Ethiopian history” and which is described with the “Saba & Solomon relationship – resulted to birth of Menelik-I”. The legend is the metaphoric illustration of the cultural and linguistic Habeshanization (diqalanization = hybridization) of Cushites with Semetic components. The Solomonized Cushites are less affected biologically, but highly influenced specially linguistically. By the way, the name of Candake (queen) Saba’s father was Aaga-Buus (which in Afaan Oromo means ‘bring down what is good’ = melkam-awurd in Amarinya; so she was Oromo (Cushite).

The emergence of Islam and the influence from the South-eastern side of Biyyakush resulted in Somalization of the Oromo (Oromo language and culture being influenced by Arab culture and language to convert Afaan Oromo to Af-Somaal). Such Somalanized Oromo started to see themselves as Arab (Mohammad) descendants, just as the Solomonized ones do claim Solomon Dynasty. Thus, the Christian Axum empire wanted to be Solomonic (Jewish religion), rather than Cushitic (Waaqeffata Oromo) and the Moslem Ajuran kingdom claimed to be Somalic of Arab origin rather than to maintain its Oromo origin. Such Solomonization and Somalization of the Oromo is still going on. The examples are the ongoing Tigrization of Raayya, Amharization of Yejju and Somalization of Garri. Such using of the Oromo as raw material for Building the Habesha and Somali identity must stop now.

Thanks to the OLF, the process is reversing slowly, but surely. That is why the OLF fought against both Habesha and Somali armies in Hararge mountains since the 1970ies. The so called 16th century Oromo migration was also a liberation movement and resistance against both the Solomonization and Somalization of the Oromo. The Waaqeffata Oromo were named as Gaallaa (derived from Arabic word, Qaalla = Nay sayer), because of the ‘NO response’ of the Oromo against both influences from the North-west and the South-east respectively. We hope that this 3000 years of Solomonization and 1500 years of Somalization of the Oromo will be over sooner or later! Otherwise, let alone Abyssinia and Somalia, even ancient Egypt belongs to the Oromo (Cush).
