Re: Achievements of Isaias Afwerki

He has succeeded to make Eritrea among the four worst places on earth for a Christian, and due to this, Release International’s annual Persecution Trends report has named Eritrea as a country of concern.

Christian persecution has been commonplace in Eritrea for many years. Among those detained and tortured for their faith is Twen Theodros, who was released due to a Covid-19 outbreak in the prison she was in.

She was imprisoned for 16 years and suffered intense persecution for her faith after police spotted her leaving a New Year’s Eve prayer vigil 2004.

She was locked into a shipping container for almost three years at Mai Serwa prison.

Release International calls on the brutal dictator of Eritrea to set free every Christian prisoner and permit full freedom of faith once again in their country.

He has succeeded to blackmail Eritreans in the diaspora by coining and imposing a legally dubious “diaspora tax” on them, which only serves to fund his gulag state and keep his brutal and grossly incompetent government afloat. Any Eritrean in the diaspora who fails to pay this tax faces consequences.

This, I reiterate, legally dubious tax, as it's not defined in any law in Eritrea, provides no benefit to the Eritreans in the diaspora or their loved ones back home, as Eritrea’s roads are neglected, buildings are deteriorating and the very limited resources allocated to the country’s schools are used not to educate pupils but to indoctrinate them with state propaganda. The country’s taps have run dry, and only limited water is available for purchase in jerry cans. Electricity and petrol are also scarce and rationed.

Afwerki provided Eritrean embassies abroad with a questionable tactcs to collect this tax. For instance, Eritrean consulates demand proof of diaspora tax payment to provide even the most basic consular services. They refuse to issue ID cards or any other legal documents until the tax is paid. Citizens who do not pay it cannot sell their properties in Eritrea or go home to visit their relatives.- I'm worried for Kerenite! And People who have never paid the tax can also face demands for massive back payments whenever they need any services from the Eritrean government.

And most of all, Afwerki tells Eritreans in the diaspora that any Eritrean who religiously pays this tax (which serves to fund Afwerki's ill-conceived regional adventures, such as the Tigray conflict, and run his gulag state) and actively takes part in the periodical dodgy festivals organised by his long arm in the diaspora to raise funds, would be pardoned.

Afwerki, known worldwide as "the merciless butcher to his own people", is using the country’s limited resources and this unjust tax with no basis in law to further repress the Eritrean people and further his selfish political ambitions and destabilise the volatile horn of Africa region.

Sure, there are other countries that require their citizens to pay tax while living abroad, but no country on Earth planet, other than Eritrea, blackmails its citizens to pay a tax with zero legal basis by withholding basic government services.

Contrary to what the little slaves of Afwerki utter on this forum, many Eritreans in the diaspora are increasingly speaking up against Afwerki's efforts to force their hand into paying this unjust tax.

Eritrea's lack of clean water affects over 80% of its citizens.

He has succeeded to make Eritrea the biggest source of African refugees.

Afwerki's brutal regime, which has been committing crimes against humanity in a widespread and systematic manner, uses enslavement, murder, forced disappearances, rape, and torture, and instil fear in to deter opposition and ultimately control the Eritrean civilian population.

Many Eritreans have described how Eritrea’s unique system of lifelong military service, which also uses underage children, amounts to modern-day slavery.

Based on testimony from 833 Eritreans, many of them have revealed how they were tortured inside government detention centres, including getting their head submerged in a deep container with dirty water and their testicles beaten on.

They beat me on my testicles many times. I fainted each time they did this. I have no testicles now, they disappeared.

They are making us into slaves, not educating us.

He has succeeded to make Eritrea a nation living without any freedom and one of the most repressive ones in the entire world. Make no mistake, Afwerki's human rights abuses are well documented.

Afwerki rules Eritrea without reference to any constitution or parliament, and without an independent judiciary; one can only conclude that these abuses are instituted at his insistence. He surrounds himself with a bunch of yes men of military and party officials who do his bidding and he expects unquestioning discipline and obedience to his taste from the general population.

Amnesty International estimates that there are 10,000 prisoners of conscience in Eritrea. They include government critics and dissidents, journalists, followers of registered and unregistered religious communities, national service evaders and military deserters, returned asylum seekers, and family members of those who fled the country. Detention can last for years or decades. Prisoners are often held incommunicado, in secret, with no family or legal counsel contact, and without charge or trial.

No wonder everyone is desperate to flee the country, including Afwerki's own son!

He has succeeded to make Eritrea the world’s most censored country, according to a list compiled by the Committee to Protect Journalists - CPJ - using an array of tactics ranging from imprisonment and repressive laws to surveillance of journalists and restrictions on internet and social media access.

Afwerki has banned independent media and intimidates and harasses journalists into silence with imprisonment, digital and physical surveillance, and other forms of harassment and made self-censorship pervasive.

No foreign journalists are allowed to enter Eritrea, known as "the prison state".

Afwerki, known worldwide as, "the merciless butcher to his own people" shut down all independent media in Eritrea in 2001.

Afwerki, the diabolical paranoid dictator, made his Ministry of Propaganda the only one in Eritrea that retains a legal monopoly of broadcast media, and journalists for the prison state's media toe the ruthless repressive regime's editorial line for fear of retaliation.

The only source of information in Eritrea is through Yemane G. Meskel, Afwerki's Minister of Twitter, whose job is to spew daily baseless propaganda via Twitter.

Under Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, everyone has the right to seek and receive news and express opinions. But Afwerki, the isolated dictator for life, has robed this basic human right from Eritreans and is refusing to return it to citizens.

Eritrean refugees and dissidents holding their country's flags and some dressed as Eritrean military members to illustrate beatings and torture in Eritrea, demonstrate against repressions in their home country.

He has succeeded to make Eritrea the worst jailer of journalists in the world, putting countless journalists behind bars and killing tantamount in prison.

For those who have been imprisoned, none of them have received a trial, leave alone a fair one. And the worst is that no one even knows whether they're still alive.

Press freedom is unknown in Eritrea, and the country, known as, "The prison state", is ranked the worst country for press freedom in Africa and in last place in the Reporters Without Borders Press Freedom Index.

Eritrea is the only country in the entire world where rampant crime and kidnapping are not known yet people vanish without leaving any trace and without anyone having any means of finding out what has happened to them. It's not rocket science to figure out that the culprit is no one else other than Afwerki, known worldwide as, "The merciless butcher to his own people."
