Chinese Ambassador to Somalia Fei Shengchao Attends the Somali Blue Economy Investment Conference

2023-11-12 16:59

On 11 November, H.E. Fei Shengchao, Chinese Ambassador to Somalia, attended the Somali Blue Economy Investment Forum and delivered remarks. H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, Somali Prime Minister, H.E. Ahmed Hassan Aden, Somali Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy, H.E. Jibril Abdirashid Haji, Somali Minister of Commerce and Industry, H.E. Abdirizak Omar Mohamed, Somali Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and other Somali government officials, as well as representatives of diplomatic missions and international organizations in Somalia, and entrepreneurs of Somali fishing companies attended the event.

Chinese Ambassador to Somalia Fei Shengchao.

Ambassador Fei said that Somalia has the longest coastline on the African continent, endowed with rich marine resources and huge development potential. China and Somalia’s earliest connection was enabled by the ocean. The two countries had maritime trade relations more than a thousand years ago. Now, China is one of Somalia's largest partners and has carried out fruitful pragmatic cooperation with Somalia in blue economy. China-Somalia fishery cooperation is mutually beneficial and win-win, delivering benefits to the local community. For example, the Chinese fishery vessels were the first foreign ships to employ Somali security guards on board. In 2022, China's blue economy GDP exceeded one trillion US dollars, creating millions of jobs. China will continue to deepen pragmatic cooperation with Somalia, strengthen experience sharing, and provide more cooperation opportunities for the development for Somalia's blue economy.

After the event, Ambassador Fei visited the exhibition of local Somali fishing companies and had cordial communication with the exhibitors.

Trillions of barrels of oil and gas, It’s no wonder why U.S. Government is so obsessed with Somalia.

Map showing the location of some of Somalia’s oil and gas blocks. (The Oil Company Coastline’s 7 blocks)

The Oil Company which paid $7 million for the blocks, will begin 3D seismic survey from 1st November 2023 until 31 March 2024. They will then process it over three to four months and they will begin drilling by the second or third quarter of 2025.
  • Mogadishu Deep- gas.
  • Jubba Deep- oil and gas.
  • Mid Somalia High - oil.
  • Block 4 - oil and gas.

The Oil Company knows beyond a shadow of a doubt it hit the jackpot and it is excited to drill for oil and gas.

Chinese Ambassador to Somalia Fei Shengchao Publishes a Signed Article Titled Belt and Road Initiative: A Road of Peace for the New Era

2023-11-12 20:29

Harmonious coexistence has been the aspiration of the Chinese nation for thousands of years. In 2013, Chinese President Xi Jinping put forth the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) with the aim of promoting peaceful development and better lives for the world. Over the past 10 years, the concepts and ideas of this initiative have increasingly come true. Last month, the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF) was held in Beijing, and over 10,000 representatives from 151 countries including Somalia and 41 international organizations attended the event.

Nowadays, the world is in great turbulence and transformation. The Palestine-Israel conflict is raging, and the Ukraine crisis is still dragging on. Critical choices have to be made about where humanity should go. Do we choose cooperation or isolation, solidarity or division, going forward together or in our separate ways? The answer upheld in the BRI is multilateralism and building a community with a shared future for mankind, so as to address global challenges and maintain lasting peace together.

President Xi Jinping pointed out in his keynote speech in BRF that humankind is a community with a shared future; win-win cooperation is the sure way to success in launching major initiatives that benefit all; and the Silk Road spirit of peace and cooperation, openness and inclusiveness, mutual learning and mutual benefit is the most important source of strength for Belt and Road cooperation. From Beijing, a clear and unambiguous message has been sent to the world, which is we need unity, cooperation, openness and win-win outcomes, not division, confrontation, isolation or zero-sum mentality. Amid the great transformation unseen in a century, the Belt and Road cooperation will bring much greater energy of stability and peace to the world.

It calls for mutual respect. The BRI was proposed by China and is shared by the world. It is not a soliloquy by China but a chorus of all partner countries, featuring extensive consultation and joint contribution for shared benefit. In pursuing this initiative, China never interferes in other countries’ internal affairs, and it never exports its social system or development model or imposes them on other countries; China does not play geopolitical games, but creates a new model of win-win cooperation; and China wants no blocs for a few but a big family where all countries coexist in harmony.

It pursues win-win results. The BRI aims to build more partnerships and make the pie bigger, and it opposes creating small clubs or seeking selfish interests. Over the past decade, synergy has been fostered between the BRI and the U.N. 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the African Union’s Agenda 2063 as well as other international and regional development strategies. Greater economic integration and deeper cooperation will inject new vigor into global peace and stability. President Xi Jinping pointed out that the modernization China pursues is not for the country alone, but for all developing countries through joint efforts. He announced at the opening ceremony that China will further expand market access; deepen reform in areas including the state-owned enterprises, digital economy, intellectual property and government procurement; and enter into free trade agreements and investment protection treaties with more countries. China’s potential as the world’s largest market will be continuously tapped. Chinese financial institutions will set up new RMB financing windows and support BRI projects based on well-informed studies. China will promote local employment through cooperation projects and carry out 1,000 small-scale livelihood assistance projects. We believe that the materialization of these significant measures will surely provide stronger boost and greater space for global modernization.

It energizes development. Embodied in the BRI is the vision of open, integrated and mutually beneficial cooperation. Somalia joined the BRI in 2018. Under the framework of BRI, China remains Somalia’s largest trading partner for years. China has also staunchly supported Somalia here and on the world stage. In the past year, China provided aids and assistance to Somalia in areas such as security, food, orphans’ care, training and scholarships as well as renovation of hospitals, schools and public institutions buildings. Thanks to the scholarships and funding provided by the Chinese side, hundreds of Somalis including diplomats, military officers, judicial officials, transportation experts, journalists and students have the opportunities to go to China for vocational training or university programs.

In the early 15th century, Zheng He, a famous Chinese navigator in the Ming Dynasty, made voyages to today’s Mogadishu, a feat that is still remembered today. He won his place in history not as conqueror with warships, guns or swords. Rather, he is remembered as friendly emissary sailing treasure-laden ships. The BRF also proves that peaceful development and win-win cooperation represents the prevailing trend and people’s common aspiration. Cold War-style confrontation and decoupling efforts go against the tide of history and will lead nowhere. China and Somalia are both peace loving nations. On October 27, our two countries both voted for a resolution that calls for a humanitarian truce in Gaza in UN General Assembly, sharing our compassion and sympathy for innocent lives and our desire for peace. China will continue to follow the path of peaceful development, strive to build the Belt and Road into a road of peace, and march hand-in-hand with Somalia and other countries toward security and development for all.

The author is H.E. Fei Shengchao, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Federal Republic of Somalia.

I wish Somalia had fertile and all year-round cultivable lands. Seasonal lush green arid patches of areas do not show natural endowment. These kinds of patch areas could also be epicenter of wild fire – often affecting wild life - if there is any.

Zombie,

We don't give a fu.ck about your wish.

"According to the ninth National Development Plan, and estimates available from the World Bank/FAO report Somalia has about 8.9 million hectares of cultivable land of which almost 2.3 million hectares produce or could produce crops under rainfed conditions. The remaining hectares could produce crops under pump or recession-controlled irrigation, mainly along the two main rivers, the Shabelle and Jubba. However, millions of hectares remain under cultivated."

The green areas in the pictures are in the north of Somalia, and these areas are not notable for being highly cultivable, as two-thirds of all cultivable land (rainfed and irrigated) are located in the southern parts of Somalia.

Somalia.

Yes, it looks like Shire area but it is Somalia, just congratulate them, Abere, you need to travel more, Somalia has some of the richest and most productive of soils in the world, Plains are more suitable to agriculture than hill/plateaus/mountains.

In 2015, Somalia exported a record 5.3 million animals to markets in the Middle East, Saudi Arabia is by far the biggest market for livestock from Somalia, with at least 70 percent of Somali exports going to the kingdom. The rest go mostly to other Middle East states such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Yemen, Qatar and Egypt.

Somalia exported about 4.7 million animals in 2013. Sheep and goats account for roughly 80 percent, followed by camels and some cattle.

How is it possible? Abere can tell us.

If wishes were reality, I wish the arid land of Somalia turned into an Amazon jungle in the region. Will that happen in a million year? Shrubs shrubs for camels

Beach Sand Minerals - Published in the 1960s by Italy and translated by the USGS in the 1980s.

The beach and dune sands along the entire coastline of Somalia contain Africa's largest reserves of strategic minerals and other rare earth elements essential to many high-tech manufacturing processes.

Southern Somali Sea - Mogadishu Fish Landing Site, Somalia has by far the longest coastline of any country in Africa at roughly 3.333 kilometers and the richest fishing grounds in the world.

In addition to oil and natural gas, Somali seabed contains vast deposits of precious metals, such as copper, iron ore, cobalt, nickel, manganese and rare earth elements, an untapped natural resources that are key in making high technology items, Somalia may as well become a major supplier of these metals in the future.
