Justice for the Afar brothers. The thread is specifically on the issue of the Afar brothers and their historical land.

You can’t speak for the Afars while you are committing crimes on the Afars.

Yemen: Transfer of oil from decaying ship expected to start next week

10 July 2023 Peace and Security

Transfer of crude oil from the dilapidated tanker Safer stranded off the coast of Yemen, is expected to start early next week, a senior United Nations humanitarian official told the Security Council on Monday.

Carrying over 1.1 million barrels of oil, the supertanker FSO Safer was abandoned off Yemen’s Red Sea port of Hudaydah after the civil war broke out in the country in 2015. Since then, the vessel has deteriorated significantly in absence of any servicing or maintenance, prompting fears of a major environmental disaster.

According to David Gressly, UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen, the vessel Nautica is preparing to sail from Djibouti. It will moor alongside the Safer and once the transfer starts, it will take about two weeks.

Generous donors and crowdfunding

Backed by generous funding from Member States, the private sector, and the general public, which contributed $300,000 through a crowdfunding campaign, UN raised about $118 million of the $148 million estimated budget for the undertaking.

Good news for Afars and thanks to Donors.

Mentally slow scumbag

Nobody uses the term "Eritrean lands" in Eritrea, It's only your fellow landless Tigrinya diaspora scavengers who use the term "Eritrean lands" to cover up their landless behind.

They are lunatics who spread misinformation and lies about other countries and people who have nothing whatsoever to do with their miserable life, every day, [deleted].

Ethiopia should support an independent Afar State without hesitation and lead African Union and other countries in recognizing Afar State as a historic nation under the illegal occupation of Isaias Afwerki.

This is the only thing Ethiopia can and should do.

EANC calls on Ethiopia to recognize territorial rights of Eritrean Afar people amid Red Sea access debate

October 21, 2023

Addis Abeba – The Eritrean Afar National Congress (EANC), a political organization representing the indigenous Afar people of Eritrea’s northern coastal region, has called on the Ethiopian government to recognize the territorial rights of the Eritrean Afar people. This comes as Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said Ethiopia should explore options for gaining access to the Red Sea.

In a statement released on 20 October, 2023, the EANC responded to recent comments made by Prime Minister Abiy, who emphasized Ethiopia’s strategic interest in securing access to the Red Sea. The PM argued that Ethiopia has an “inalienable right” to access the Red Sea, including the Port of Assab.

While acknowledging Ethiopia’s economic development needs and aspirations to utilize the Red Sea, the EANC stressed that the coastal territories and resources of the Dankalia region, where Assab port is located, are the traditional homeland and legal property of the Eritrean Afar people under international law.

The EANC further warned that any unilateral action by Ethiopia to gain control over the Port of Assab, in collaboration with the current Eritrean regime, would violate international laws and compromise Eritrean sovereignty. It would also undermine the right to self-determination of the Eritrean Afar nation in their homeland, the statement said.

The political organization also accused the Eritrean government, led by President Isaias Afwerki, of carrying out policies of marginalization, violence, ethnic cleansing, and illegal land seizures against the Afar people over the past three decades. According to the EANC, these actions have displaced tens of thousands of Afar people from their territories in Dankalia.

Addis Ababa December 22/2023 (ENA) Academic and research-based deliberations will play a significant role in setting out Ethiopia’s genuine intention on win-win approach for access to sea, Samara University President Mohammed Usman said.

In an exclusive interview with ENA, the president said the workshop organized by Samara University, in collaboration with Dire Dawa, Addis Ababa, Jigjiga, and Mekelle universities on the Red Sea will serve as impetus for cooperation among the community within the Red Sea.

The academia have the responsibility to distinguish the fact and fiction that gear up around Ethiopia’s demand for access to the sea, he noted, adding that the joint workshop to be conducted tomorrow will put forth mutually beneficial insights.

The president stressed the need to focus on turning the issue of the Red sea from competition to a topic of tangible cooperation.

“We have regional agendas of integrating the region… We the Red Sea community have the same culture. If you take the Afar, this can be taken as an input to enhance the regional cooperation and integration,” the university president elaborated.

Speaking of the geographic proximity to the Red Sea, the president pointed out that Samara University has extra responsibility to carry out scientific and research to ensure mutual understanding, development and prosperity in the nation's demand to gain access to sea.

“As an institution, the Samara University which is closer to the Red Sea has a unique role in initiating research activity and bringing stakeholders and other universities to help the communities around the Red Sea,” he said.

Cognizant to its aspiration of fostering the mutual benefit of the Afar community within the Red Sea, the president revealed that Samara University has been providing capacity building training on port service management to 20 Djiboutians.

Ethiopia Should Reclaim its Right, Unlock Red Sea for Prosperity: AAU Interim President

Addis Ababa December 23/2023 (ENA) Ethiopia should ask for reclaiming its right and unlock the Red Sea for achieving prosperity, Addis Ababa University Interim President Samuel Kifle said.

A joint workshop entitled “Ethiopia’s Strategic Pursuit: Unlocking the Red Sea- a Journey Through History, Geopolitics and International Law” organized by Samara University in collaboration with Dire Dawa, Addis Ababa, Jigjiga, and Mekelle universities kicked off today.

In his opening remark, the interim president of Addis Ababa University stated that the history of human civilization and the fight for global power supremacy have affected the nations neighboring the Red Sea and also invited others from distance.

Thus, he stressed “the Red Sea holds a high order in history, geopolitics and international trade.”

For us, Ethiopians, the Red Sea was and still has remained to be part of our history, both as a curse and blessing. Now it seems a new world order is in the making that we should ask for reclaiming our right and unlock the Red Sea for our prosperity,” Samuel noted.

According to him, getting the facts right and informing others about Ethiopia’s pursuit for a fair access to the Red Sea is essential that needs due attention.

Samara University President, Mohammed Usman said on his part that, as academic institutions, universities must create a platform to discuss and direct the right path of mutual benefit in the Red Sea corridor.

“Ethiopia, as a landlocked country, cannot hold itself aloof from emerging regional issues that could significantly affect its vital interest. Given its close proximity to the Red Sea and other adjacent states, as well as its growing economic demands and regional security concerns, Ethiopia must pursue peaceful means based on the principle of mutual benefit and expedition of regional integration to secure its access to the Red Sea,” the President elaborated.

He added that the task at hand is to clearly define Ethiopia's strategic interest towards the Red Sea.

Quest for Red Sea Port and Alternative Port Not Luxury, Says Economist

Addis Ababa December 23/2023 (ENA) Ethiopia’s quest for sea port and access to alternative port is not a luxury but a morally and legally appropriate demand consistent with the principle of international trade, according to the Addis Ababa University economist Atnafu Gebremeskel.

A joint workshop on the strategic interest of Ethiopia on the Red Sea and organized by Samara, Dire Dawa, Addis Ababa, Jigjiga and Mekelle universities is underway in the Afara regional capital Samara.

Presenting his perspective on port and economy to Ethiopia’s strategic interest, the economist said that logistics and product supply chain have become instrumental in modern global trade activities.

A port is key instrument in accelerating global trade and it enables countries to participate in international trade and ensure their economic growth, he elaborated.

According to the economist, among the trade barriers Africans face is sea port. Some 80 percent of the world's trade pass through ports.

The economist stressed that maritime transport has remained one of the major bottlenecks for African countries to facilitate their trade activities.

Africa, a continent with 17.8 percent of the world population, has only two percent the global trade share.

Atnafu pointed out that the annual GDP of landlocked countries is lower by 31 percent when compared with countries that have coastal access. Their inflation rate is also bigger by 26 percent.

Therefore, building standard port and producing quality produces as well as developing surroundings is vital in order to become competitive in trade and export-import.

He further said that global trade and investment cannot be met without regional integration.

Given the global context, Ethiopia's quest for sea port and alternative port is not a luxury but morally and legally correct.
