I kind of stumbled on Albert Camus's writing while delving into the Socratic perspective on the nature of Human evil. Socratic believed that nobody chose to do wrong willingly. And most of all, he maintained that doing wrong always harmed the wrongdoer, so given that, nobody seeks to bring harm upon herself/himself /themselves unless they are ignorant. Let alone us mere mortals the Prometheus Aristotle wasn’t convinced by Socrates’s maxim. Our experience affirms that people act in a calculable fashion evilly to achieve what they want. The question is their calculation and the result they obtained by that calculation devoid of Ignorance. No. I’m more convinced that Socrates was right and that human beings are instinctively self-interest oriented and by default, they come up with a justification to confirm those instinctive “self-interest decisions “ so they materialize despite factual accuracies and rational fallacies. Socrates lay the blame for all human evil actions at the feet of ignorance, and rightly so. Unenlightened self-interest executed with zeal, as proven time and again, leads to disaster. Albert Camus came from different niches of philosophical thinking, but he arrived at the same conclusion. Although the breadth and depth of his work are vast to venture into, one aspect of his philosophical thinking kind of jumps out his philosophical thinking of “Absurdity” “and meaninglessness” of the world we live in which influenced his literary works and maybe also his political views and his political activism. The contradiction between human value and its lack of solid foundation in the real world, made him question the value of life altogether and probed if suicide is a solution to it. Since he wasn’t a nihilist, he didn’t’ embrace it. To him, we can accept the absurdity of life but live well without denying its exitance. For him, life has meaning when we live it well and make the most of our limited time on earth. He disdains emotions that send us astray. As he put “It is not an emotion which can cut through the web of a logic, but the reason which can meet logic on its own ground.” That difference is lost in the mind of our political leaders and the cheerleaders behind them.

“Narcissistic personality disorder is named for Narcissus, from Greek mythology, who fell in love with his own reflection. Freud used the term to describe persons who were self-absorbed, and psychoanalysts have focused on the narcissist's need to bolster his or her self-esteem through grandiose fantasy, exaggerated ambition, exhibitionism, and feelings of entitlement.” ~D.
