According to American policymakers, the winners and losers of the 21st century global economy may be determined by whether Africa natural resources rich-countries, notably Somalia’s vast natural resources reserves are available in an open and transparent marketplace or are inaccessible due to predatory practices of competitors, In other words, The United States is very worried that its rivals could come to control African & Somalia’s vast natural resource reserves.

Somalia has been under permanent US military occupation since 1992 and the US regularly conducts air patrols over Somalia to ensure the security of Somalia, yes, that is correct, to ensure the security of Somalia, (their own words), an independent African country but not reported by mainstream media outlets.

A U.S. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon based in the Central Command area of operations conduct armed aerial patrols in Somalia.

This is not desert sand, It is coastal dunes formed by beach sand piled up by strong winds from Somali ocean, Somalia coastline is characterized by strong seasonal alongshore winds.

The entire coastline of Somalia contain a huge deposit of rare and valuable, heavy mineral sands.

Central Somali Sea.

Truth be told, Somalia is only a victim of its own God given natural resources and beautiful sandy coastline.

U.S. increases military support for Somalia

Published March 1, 2023

MOGADISHU, Somalia -

The United States is increasing its military assistance to Somalia as the country sees success in battling what the U.S. calls "the largest and most deadly al Qaeda network in the world."

Sixty-one tons of weapons and ammunition arrived Tuesday in Mogadishu, the U.S. said in a statement of support for a historic Somalia-led military offensive against al-Shabab extremists that has recaptured dozens of communities since August.

In a separate joint statement with other leading security partners Qatar, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Britain, the U.S. said they will support Somalia's efforts to manage weapons and ammunition that could allow the United Nations Security Council to lift its arms embargo on the country.

  • The reason why the United States signed a new defense agreement with Somalia is actually to counter China’s growing influence in Somalia and to secure mineral resources that are scarce in the United States, China is America's worst nightmare!

Because we get the Yttrium we use in cars from Somali mines and now they are threatening to cut us off, The word "Yttrium" caught my attention.

I think Somalia has agreed with the United States to sell its Yttrium, a rare and costly mineral which is used in many technologies, After all, America has a hidden agenda in Somalia that has nothing to do with fighting terrorism, the US military presence in Somalia is largely driven by America's desire for natural resources and nothing else.

MEPs confirm importance of EU strategic presence in Djibouti and continued engagement with Somalia

Press Releases SEDE Yesterday

Security and Defence subcommittee (SEDE) MEPs visited Djibouti and Somalia from 1-4 April, and assessed the role of the EU CSDP missions and operations in supporting regional security.

MEPs concluded the visit stating that it is the right moment to continue EU support for Somalia, to ensure its successes against Al-Shabaab are sustained, because this is the key to peace and stability in the Horn of Africa region.

The speed of developing Somali capacities is considered essential to building on the success of the security forces by delivering social services, especially youth education, as well as stabilisation and governance for Somali citizens, after more than 30 years of conflict.

During their four-day visit, MEPs assessed the role of the EU’s CSDP missions and operations in supporting regional security. They heard of the important role played by EU Capacity Building Mission to Somalia (EUCAP Somalia), EU Training Missions in Somalia (EUTM Somalia) and EU Naval forces operation Atalanta (EUNAVFOR Atalanta) through their co-location and close coordination of activities under the EU’s Integrated Approach.
MEPs will take these positive messages back to Brussels as well as specific recommendations to ensure the EU acts geopolitically and provides practical security assistance to key partners.

In Djibouti, MEPs heard about the growing geopolitical competition focused on the maritime route at the crossroads between Europe and Asia. It was stressed that the EU has an important role to play in this geopolitical context and EUNAVFOR Operation Atalanta provides a strategic presence, as a security provider.

In Somalia, MEPs were briefed on the need to enhance support to the Somali security forces during the transition from the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), so that the territory reclaimed by the Somali National Army from Al-Shabaab can be held and secured.

When the transition to full Somali responsibility is complete, at the end of 2024, it was clearly stressed that the arms embargo should be lifted so that the Somali Federal Government can equip its forces and maintain stability throughout the country.

EU support for Somalia will require enhanced support from EUCAP Somalia in particular in the area of policing and strengthening the coast guard, and for EUTM to continue its unique training of future Somali officers and to enhance its active presence in the ATMIS Joint Operational Centre’s planning cell and processes.

MEPs also urged the Somali authorities to enter into agreement quickly with EUNAVFOR Operation Atalanta to allow it to support the Somali authorities in tackling the trafficking of arms, drugs, people and illegal and unregulated fishing.

Quote

At the end of the mission, SEDE Chair Nathalie Loiseau (Renew, FR), speaking on behalf of the SEDE delegation, said: "I would firstly like to extend my thanks to our Djibouti and Somali hosts for their warm welcome and sincere dialogue as equal partners. This is clearly the right time for the EU to continue its support because Djibouti and Somalia are working hard to address regional security challenges and specifically the fight against the terrorism and indiscriminate suffering caused by Al-Shabaab.ʺ

Background

Led by SEDE Chair Nathalie Loiseau (Renew, FR), the delegation was composed of Members from different political groups: SEDE Vice-Chair Lukas Mandl (EPP, AT), Arnaud Danjean (EPP, FR), Attila Ara-Kovács (S&D, HU), Petras Auštrevičius (Renew, LT), Lars Patrick Berg (ECR, DE).

MEPs also urged the Somali authorities to enter into agreement quickly with EUNAVFOR Operation Atalanta to allow it to support the Somali authorities in tackling the trafficking of arms, drugs, people and illegal and unregulated fishing.

It's better not to enter into any agreements with them, It will give the Western imperialist an excuse to militarize the already militarized Red Sea, Somali Sea and the entire coast of East Africa further.

As reported by the United Nations Security Council website, On March 2022, The former president of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, also known as Farmaajo ended nearly 15 years of UN Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) anti-piracy missions agreement, Moreover, Somali Sea was taken off the shipping industry's list of high-risk areas on 1 January 2023, Thus, there is no valid reason to enter into an agreement with European Union Naval Force, They are just trying to find some reason to stay involved in Somalia’s politics.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Haavisto visited Somalia

Ministry for Foreign Affairs
Publication date 7.4.2023 17.02 | Published in English on 7.4.2023 at 17.10 Press release

Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto visited Mogadishu, Somalia, on 7 April. He met President of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Abshir Omar Jama, Minister of the Environment and Climate Change Khadija M. Almakhzoumi and international actors in Somalia.

The topics of the meetings included Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, bilateral relations between Finland and Somalia, political and peace processes in Somalia and the Horn of Africa, and environmental and climate matters. The foreign ministers agreed to start political consultations between Finland and Somalia.

“The Government of Somalia that was elected last year has launched an active war against terrorism, while also pursuing progress in state-building. Finland supports Somalia in its efforts to promote democracy and stability and to eradicate poverty. I communicated to the Somali leaders the importance of Somalia supporting the international community in its efforts to end Russia’s invasion of Ukraine,” Foreign Minister Haavisto says.

In Mogadishu, Foreign Minister Haavisto met Finns who are working in Somalia. “A number of Finnish experts and soldiers are serving in Somalia in crisis management operations of the EU and the UN. In addition, the Somali diaspora in Finland is doing extremely valuable work in reconstructing Somalia and promoting relations between our countries.”

Foreign Minister Haavisto met Somalia’s Minister of the Environment and Climate Change Khadija M. Almakhzoumi. On behalf of Finland, he signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministries of the Environment in Finland and Somalia that was drawn up earlier this year. Finland and Somalia have agreed on closer dialogue to respond to climate change, loss of biodiversity, environmental problems and pollution and to strengthen the capacity of Somalia’s newly established Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change.

“Climate change has extremely tangible effects in Somalia, and the unprecedented drought in the Horn of Africa has brought the country to the brink of famine. Environmental and climate impacts can also feed conflicts. It is important to support Somalia in introducing different kinds of long-term solutions that lead for instance to better land use and enable better living conditions.”

Italy has also urged Somalia and Ethiopia to cooperate with Europe and America, the West is using both carrot and stick to set up a geopolitical trap for Somalia and Ethiopia but both countries should be careful not to fall into a geopolitical trap, the war in Ukraine is in Europe's backyard, It is not Africa's problems, In fact, the Russia-Ukraine war is good for Africa and for the world.

Somalia regains full control of its airspace after 31 years

Somali Airlines Boeing 707-330B Frankfurt am Main (Rhein-Main AB) (FRA / EDDF / FRF) Germany - 1988

January 25, 2023

The Somali airspace has regained its Class A classification after more than 31 years, the International Air Transport Association said.

IATA confirmed the reclassification of the Mogadishu Flight Information Region airspace in a statement on Wednesday.

Class A airspace is the sky above the base altitude of about 24,500 feet (7,467 meters) above mean sea level, according to IATA. In it, all flights must be cleared by air traffic control, which is responsible for maintaining the correct separation between aircraft, which required the Mogadishu FIR to install new equipment.

IATA said the move will significantly improve safety in the region and enhance efficiency.

The reclassification of Somali airspace to Class A took effect on 26 January 2023 at 00:01 a.m. local time Thursday (16:01 EST), Somali officials said.

About 400 international flights use Somali airspace a day, and the change to Class A airspace has the potential to increase traffic to as many as 600 flights a day, Somalia said current annual revenue is $22 million, and they expect that to increase to $34 million.

Somalia regained control of its airspace in 2018 ending a three decades UN oversight from Nairobi. However, it remained under Class G which meant that the airspace was uncontrolled.

It took Somalia 31 long years to finally regain full control of its airspace because minerals-rich Somalia was under unlawful USA military occupation all this time.
