FILE - A destroyed tank is seen in a field in the aftermath of fighting between the Ethiopian National Defence Force and the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) forces in Kasagita town, in Afar region, Ethiopia, Feb. 25, 2022.

Ethiopia's government has rebuked U.S. and European envoys who visited Tigray rebel leaders this week, accusing them of siding with the rebels.

A senior Ethiopian official has accused EU and U.S. diplomats of "indulging" rebels in the northern Tigray region, after the envoys called for the restoration of services to the province.

In recent weeks, both the federal government and the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) have said they are willing to negotiate an end to the country's civil war, which began in November 2020.

Federal officials have said they are ready to start talks immediately and "without preconditions," but the TPLF is insisting that services are restored to Tigray before negotiations commence.

Following a visit to Tigray's regional capital, Mekelle, on August 2, U.S. special envoy to the Horn of Africa, Mike Hammer, and his EU counterpart, Anette Weber, called for "unfettered" humanitarian access to Tigray and for the
swift restoration of electricity, telecom, banking and other basic services
in the region.

In response, Redwan Hussein, the Ethiopian prime minister's national security adviser, said he was "dismayed" by the envoys' position, saying they
failed to press for equivocal commitment for peace talks
and
indulged in appeasement
toward the TPLF.

He also said the issue of humanitarian access has
already been long addressed.

FILE - A man walks next to a convoy of trucks on their way to Tigray in the village of Erebti, Ethiopia, June 9, 2022.

In recent months there has been a large increase in aid trucks entering Tigray, but humanitarian agencies say fuel shortages in the region hinder the distribution of supplies.

The Tigray conflict has killed tens of thousands of people and displaced millions more in northern Ethiopia.

At a press conference after the U.S. and EU envoys left Mekelle, TPLF spokesperson Getachew Reda said his side believes
the only game in town is talking, because its alternative, shooting, will have disastrous consequences.
Yet many issues remain unaddressed, including the mediator and venue for talks.

The government is pushing for a process mediated by the African Union, while the TPLF has expressed a preference for talks in Nairobi under the auspices of Kenya and the U.S.

Wow! Did the Ethiopian government actually develop some balls to protest against the Ferengis selfish interest? I guess that is a good start if it stays the course, which I seriously doubt. As they say better late than never. We will see.

As to the Kenyans, they embarrass me when they stupidly want to act like their colonial masters by shamelessly using English first names! Hurray Niġga mentality, downplay your race and copy the white race and suddenly you will be a white person. Can't be more bizarre than that.   I do, however, give him credit for not changing his name to those of his colonial masters. Good for him.

'The youth are the most vocal group. They dominate discussions on social media networking sites, they build websites, establish magazines, and form student groups at universities. While many diaspora youth see themselves as American, British, German, Australian, and so forth, they also don an "ultra Eritrean" persona when necessary. Diaspora youth are very protective of Eritrea and, while they are only in Eritrea for a few weeks at a time, will vehemently defend the country against criticism.' Of the plethora of Western 'experts', 'pundits', ambassadors, politicians, officials etc......doom and gloom predictions of Eritrea, only the above statement by the US former ambassador to Eritrea, Ronalad McMullen still holds. View the 10min clip, interview in English....

ዕጽዋን ክባን is working like a charm. It works on violent criminals in solitary confinement behind bars. 8) 8)

'He who sups with the devil should have a long spoon'.

The foolhardy PM and his oromo PP advisors have no one to blame for allowing the Europeans to meddle with
Ethiopian's internal affairs.
Now we have the PM desperate for western praise acting in subservient manner while complaining of bulling and unacceptable demands (indulging TPLF).

The west wants their client (TPLF) be reinstated or the way paved for separate tigray republic.

The very idea of working out with a bunch of criminals (terrorists) is a sign of weakness hence allowing the devious westerns to walk all over us.

Keep the white man at an arms length to warrant respect. The westerners are known for creating war and strife than for genuinely resolving problems.

The Ethiopia government must focus on eliminating the terrorist TPLF to bring peace to the people of Tigrai and Ethiopia in general.

Please let's encourage Fikreyesus (PhD) by purchasing his well-researched book about child mortality in Eritrea, and progresses made to minimize that.
Another Eritrean (from Norway) who has been working in digitizing and centralizing hospitals' systems across Eritrea.
