Sudan tells Eritrea to mind its own business

Khartoum prevents eastern Sudan leaders from visiting Eritrea

August 4, 2022 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese authorities Thursday prevented a delegation of political and traditional leaders from crossing into neighbouring Eritrea.

The delegation was heading to Eritrea by road to take part in a forum sponsored by Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki to discuss tribal problems that affected the security situation in the eastern Sudan region.

The border police at al-Laffah crossing point of Kassala state said they did not receive formal instructions from the federal authorities to allow the 112 delegates to cross the border, as they had no visas on their passports.

“Despite the insisting requests by the Asmara ambassador to let us cross, the officers stuck to their stance and we returned after spending 6 hours at the border,” he added.

Sudan declined to participate in Eritrea’s brokered peace meeting: foreign minister

Ali al Sadiq acting foreign minister of Sudan

August 6, 2022 (KHARTOUM) – Sudan declined to take part in an Eritrean-sponsored meeting on eastern Sudan issues, Foreign Minister Ali Sadiq told Sudan Tribune on Friday.

Sudanese authorities prevented political and tribal leaders from crossing the border into Eritrea in response to an invitation by President Isaias Afwerki, citing a lack of visa and instructions from Khartoum authorizing the visit.

But, the Secretary General of a faction of the Popular Front for Liberation and Justice led by al-Amin Daoud, said that the embassy in Khartoum informed the Sudanese government via the foreign ministry about the visit.

“The Foreign Ministry was requested through a note from the Eritrean embassy to select some figures from the government side to participate in the conference which would be held inside the Eritrean territories,” Minister Ali al-Sadiq told Sudan Tribune.

“The Foreign Ministry did not respond to this request, which means its (tacit) rejection,” he further stressed.

Sudan’s unfriendly behaviour towards Eritrea is an unprecedented event, It has demonstrated that it does not respect Eritrea at all, Sudanese thugs should learn how to politely decline an invitation without wasting people's time and resources, This unconventional behaviour towards Eritrea has likely already cost Eritrea's diaspora taxpayers more than US$ 1 million.

Eritrea should recall its unheeded ambassador from Sudan.
