Evolution of Oromo Politics from Past Low Confidence through Present Intermediate to Potential High Confidence!

Evolution of Oromo Politics from Past Low Confidence through Present Intermediate Confidence to Potential High Confidence!

Up to now, Oromo elites are entertaining three possible types of sovereignty to be implemented after getting freedom from the currently ruling dictatorial regime of Biltsiginna. They all used to fight for freedom in the last about 50 years. By getting rid of the Monarch during the 1st revolution, we achieved about 1/4th of our Bilisumma/freedom. During the second change by defeating Derg, we already got 1/2 of our Bilisumma. By the change process of chasing away Woyane, we reached at 3/4th of our Bilisumma. When we will be free from the ongoing dictatorship of Biltsiginna, our Bilisummaa will be completely fulfilled (100%). After such optimal freedom, it is up to the will and wish of our people, which type of sovereignty to materalize: con-federation of the OLF or ethno-federation of the OFC or geo-federation of the OPP (in case this is goal of the party as usually alleged to be)? If Afaan Oromo will be a primary working language of all federal institutions, I think this OPP’s approach is a nice future Oromo politics of high confidence prefering Great Oromia (Gadaa democratic Ethiopia) to merely smaller Gadaa Oromia of the OLF. But now, at this time of  transition, in which still Amharigna/Amharanet is dominating, OFC’s way of intermediate confidence is preferable. OLF’s goal of con-federation as an option of low confidence can be the last choise, if the other two are not feasible to be realized. Any ways, now, Oromo forces should act in unison to check Abesha forces from coming back to Finfinne palace and Oromo nationalists should try to consolidate Aango Oromo (power) in Finfinne palace, bring back Finfinne City under Adminstration of Oromia state and promote Afaaan Oromo to primary working language of the federation.

If you have followed Oromo politics exactly, you might have observed that all Oromo elites and organizations are pro-union. Accusing Oromo elites as separatists was what the TPLF tried to use just in order to polarize against the centeralist anti-TPLF Amhara elites. TPLF was centeralist (pseudo-federalist) as long as it was on power, and it is now separatist after losing power. Eritrean elites were separatists; Amhara forces are still centeralists. The Oromo were always federalists (unionists). Oromo rulers of Abyssinia during the “Mesafint Zemen” applied this principle. The 5 Odaa of Oromia during the Gadaa rule were also characters of federalism. Even now, almost all major Oromo organizations are pro-union. As example, look at the major Oromo organizations (the OLF, OFC & OPP). OFC is explicitly federalist. The OLF is also unionist, when you read its mission statement:

“The fundamental objective of the Oromo liberation movement is to exercise the Oromo people’s inalienable right to national self-determination to terminate a century of oppression and exploitation, and to form, where possible, a political union with other nations on the basis of equality, respect for mutual interests and the principle of voluntary associations. … OLF’s commitment to this objective is based on a democratic principle, that the Oromo people are endowed with the right to decide the type of sovereignty they want to live under and the type of political union they want to form with other peoples. … In fact, the OLF and the Oromo people are committed to the noble cause of laying a foundation for union of free peoples on the basis of their freely expressed will.”

Even the purely pro-independence fronts like were not against such union; only their approach and priority setting differs from that of OFC and OLF. The first two chose left to right approach giving priority for independence and opting for union as secondary alternative, whereas the later two follow right to left approach, give priority for union and put independence as secondary. Political values like freeedom, union & democracy are not only parts of our vision, but also that of our tradition. That is why there is now a new move of all Oromo elites towards a common denominator of bilisummaa/freedom

At present, it is mandatory that both the ruling Oromo prosperitans and rebeling (opposing) Oromo republicans come to their sense and negotiate to maintain Oromo leadership in the reviving future wonderful Cushitic Ethiopia. The two Habesha oppressors (the assimilationist Amhara elites and hegemonist Tegaru elites) should not be given any chance to control power in Finfinne palace. Especially, Oromo republicans should take heed not to play in hands of the two Abesha oppressors at this time. If Oromo prosperitans led by Dr. Abiy will lose power, we need to be sure that Oromo republicans will fill the vacume of power, so that the salivating Abesha oppressors will never get any possibility of revival.

In general, for the union to serve an interest of our nation, all Oromo elites have to agree on implementation of the following five points in the future genuine union: (1) freedom from system of domination; (2) Afaan Oromo as a primary language of the union; (3) democracy as rule of game in the union; (4) Oromia instead of Ethiopia as name of the union; and (5) black-red-white as Cushitic flag of the union. If such principle will be the rule of future political game in Gadaa democratic Ethiopia, then really opting for the more beneficial primarily Afaan Oromo speaking Gadaa democratic Ethiopia (de facto Great Oromia) with Geo-federation as a garantie of its territorial integrity is a smart move. If OPP will be an agent of this noble original vision of Dr. Haile Fida will be seen in the near future.
