Ethiopia to Pursue Interest on Red Sea

Ethiopia to Pursue Interest on Red Sea, Expand Port Options in Region: Demeke Mekonnen

Addis Ababa May 17/2022/ENA/ Ethiopia will not continue to be a close observer to issues with regard to the Red Sea, and is working focused on expanding alternative ports in Kenya, Somaliland and Eritrea, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Demeke Mekonnen told the House of People’s Representatives today.

To enable this big country with huge population accesses alternative ports, the ministry has designed a geopolitical strategy it has been working to realize.

As a country close to the Red Sea there is no rationale to exclude from being beneficiary of the region, he noted.

Any arrangement that excludes Ethiopia with respect to issues related to the Red Sea is unacceptable, Demeke stressed.

Ethiopia will continue to pursue its interest in the region in a peaceful, cooperative, fair and equitable (lool) manner.

The DPM and FM also pointed out that Ethiopia is strengthening its relationship and cooperation with Kenya and agreements are underway to strengthen border security, infrastructure and trade ties.

Supply of electric power to Kenya will start at the beginning of August, Demeke disclosed.

The Lamu project is the other major infrastructure that will serve Ethiopia as an alternative port to its export-import, he stated, further recalling that a joint center has been set up to handle the trade exchange between the countries.

He further said the growing relation and cooperation of Ethiopia and Kenya in different sectors will benefit the people of the two sisterly countries socially and economically.

Ethiopia faced two strategic blockages by the colonialists that were imposed on it with the objective of keeping it under control. One was indefinite blockage from building dams on the Abay River and the second is preventing it from having direct access to the Red Sea, which have made Ethiopia the most populous land locked nation on earth . Ethiopia has successfully broken the ban on building dam on the Abay river and more cascade of dams shall be built in the years to come. Blockage in accessing the Red Sea is still in effect but history has given Ethiopia an opportunity again with the unwarranted invasion of Tigray by Eritrea in November 2020. Subsequent to the invasion , any agreement between the two countries is null and void and Ethiopia in self defense could reverse the aggression by force( since the Eritrean government has given deaf ear to the several calls that were made by the UN and the international community to withdraw it's forces from Tigray). As part of reversing the aggression , Ethiopia could occupy the land from Assab to the historic Axumite port of Adulis and negotiate the boundary demarcation with Post-Isaias government with out compromising it's legal and historical right of having access to the Red Sea, which will enable it to build sea ports , cities , tourism beaches along the coastline of the Red Sea. Once Ethiopia builds it's own Red Sea ports , Ethiopia could be the hub of billions dollar electronic commerce combining the sea- surface- air transports and could offer multi- billion dollar diversified and full service tourist products that competes with Egypt , such as beaches, historical, religious, safari, archaeological and volcano tourism. The sea ports will also enable to build a navy that will enhance it's security and will make it a formidable and major geopolitical power in the region.

Delusion, or lack of shame?

I MEAN.. IT’S CALLED THE “RED SEA FORUM”, FOR GODS SAKE! IT’S, IN THE NAME!

Let’s break it down to Elementary, Real Quick! ⬇️

🔵Blue Circle = Countries that have no coastline on the Red Sea!
🔴Red Circle = Countries that have a coastline on the Red Sea!

Nations with coastline on the Red Sea & which are the ones that will be directly affected by any security concern, can collectively look at the issue & resolve it & are more than capable to do this. This security is then extended to all nations with no coastline, such as Ethiopia.

Ethiopia is DEMANDING or insisting authoritatively & claiming it is its right to join the security forum, when it is not. Also Ethiopia claiming to be a champion of integration in HOA in my opinion, isn't true. For months now, it is rubbing shoulders with powers of hegemony.

Yes, govt of Ethiopia is NOT champion of integration of HOA as it claims to be. It has moved away from cooperating with neighbouring HOA nations & instead, has gotten closer to western hegemony. It's even discussing about the Red Sea with gangsters from the West, & calling them DECISION MAKERS.

Unbelievable! Look, here:
👇

Now, connect the dots.

Following Mr Demeke's visit to Europe & calling Europe "DECISION MAKERS of Red Sea security"👇, PM Abiy talked about Ethiopia's INFLUENCE (ተጽእኖ) on the Red Sea. Basically, Ethiopia is seeking control on Red Sea helped by its 'Decision maker' masters!

We've a 3000 year history of Independence & we've never been colonized they say, while their empty brains have been colonized a long time ago.

In other words, the worship of the pink skin continues in that country!

Makes me wanna puke!!!

Saudi Arabia launches 'Red Wave 5' naval drill off Jeddah

May 30, 2022 at 12:34 pm | Published in: Middle East, News, Saudi Arabia

May 30, 2022

A mixed naval exercise launched today off the Saudi Red Sea coast of Jeddah. Led by the Western Fleet, the 'Red Wave 5' drill will include the participation of countries bordering the Red Sea, including Jordan, Egypt, Sudan, Djibouti, Yemen and observers from Somalia.

The Royal Saudi Land Forces, Royal Saudi Air Force and naval units of the Saudi Border Guard will also be taking part.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, Commander of the Western Fleet Rear Admiral Yahya Bin Mohammed Al-Asiri, explained that the drill aims to enhance maritime security for the countries bordering the Red Sea, protect territorial waters, strengthen military cooperation and to raise their combat readiness to ensure maritime security and freedom of navigation.

It has also been reported that the exercise will involve, for the first time Apache helicopters. In an interview yesterday with the Al-Ikhbariya channel, Al-Asiri said: "In this version, we have introduced a new element, which is the aviation of the ground forces, the Apache planes."

"The upcoming versions will witness more and more development according to the new units entering service," he added.

In January 2019, the kingdom hosted the first version of the Red Wave manoeuvre, with the participation of the same five coastal countries. The following year Saudi Arabia launched the Red Sea Council, described as a multilateral framework to cooperate on issues of security and enhance stability in the Red Sea region.

Saudi Arabia hasn't invited Eritrea to take part in the exercise off the Saudi Red Sea coast of Jeddah because Eritrea’s strained relations with Ethiopia.

In 2018, Ethiopia and Eritrea signed a peace agreement at a summit in Saudi Arabia, Saudi King Salman hosted the signing ceremony which was also attended by his son, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres..Ethiopia has good relations with Saudi Arabia.

Isaias Afwerki and Abiy Ahmed wasted Saudis time.

Sudan ratifies Red Sea cooperation treaty

31 May 2022In Editor's Picks, Middle East, News

May 30, 2022 (KHARTOUM) – Sudan on Monday ratified the charter of the Council of Arab and African Coastal States of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, a treaty signed by eight countries last January.

The charter, which promotes economic integration and security cooperation, was signed on January 6, 2022, by Saudi Arabia, the initiator, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Jordan, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.

“Sudan joined this Charter in recognition of the importance of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden to international navigation, and the impact on the stability and growth of the countries that ratify this Charter,” reads a statement released by the foreign ministry.

Last January, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud dismissed that the signatory countries would form a joint military force but stressed the bilateral cooperation between the member states.

Sudan and Saudi Arabia conduct joint military exercises every year.

Riyadh showed deep concern over Russian efforts to establish naval bases on the Red Sea in Eritrea and Sudan, as they allow to easily reach the coasts of the biggest oil producer in the region.

Russia or other countries would seek to use the poor economic conditions of these countries to expand its influence in the region.

The economic development and trade between the Red Sea states would at least dissuade Asmara and Khartoum from accepting Russian advances.

Until now, Sudanese military leaders seem reluctant to implement a deal signed by the isolated former president Omer al-Bashir.

Abyssinia lady,

"Because of eritrea's strained relation with ethiopia" just quoting you.

This is unsubstantiated and cannot be taken at face value.

Among the countries who harbor the red sea only 2 countries were unwelcome by the host saudi arabia in the drill. For obvious reasons saudi arabia has no relationship with israel. Eritrea? Well let's wait for further info.

Eritrea is suspended indefinitely from Jeddah Amendment membership also known as the Code of Conduct International Maritime Security Organization for its involvement in Ethiopia civil war.

A high-level meeting, held in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (22-24 November 2022), agreed practical measures for the implementation of an improved, region-led Information Sharing Network to meet the objectives of the Jeddah Amendment; the effective use of the regional Capacity Building Coordination Matrix, based on signatory States' needs and priorities; and a more effective support network of regional and international partners that make up the "Friends of the DCoC/JA"

Jeddah International Maritime Organization Meeting 22-24 November 2022- Ethiopian flag.

I think the government of Ethiopia and Ethiopian Maritime Authority have asked Saudi Arabia to suspend Eritrea from the Code of Conduct Organization membership because Ethiopia desperately wants to play a leading role in the Red Sea and the vast Indian Ocean security affairs.

Eritrea sits in a geostrategic location but unfortunately it is a forgotten land and will remain a forgotten land by the world.
