# Bring Back Our Access to Red Sea! Ethiopia has the legal right to have access to the Red Sea!

Post by Axumezana » 10 May 2022, 02:19

The link below is a well researched thesis document by Abebe T. Kahsay (Major General) on Ethiopia's sovereign right of Access to the Red Sea under international law.

In this document Major General Abebe reveals and concludes that:

- It was lost opportunity to recognize Eritrea with out securing Red Sea Access to Ethiopia

- It was wrong to base the Algiers agreement on out of dated " Null and Void Treaties due to the invasion of Ethiopia by Italy in 1935 " of 1900, 1902 and 1908 instead of United Nations Resolution 390 V ( refer to Chapter 4 of the thesis for details) in which Ethiopia's right to have access to the Red Sea was one of the objectives of the resolution.

- General Abebe clearly concludes Ethiopia still has legitimate and un-breached right to secure Access to Red Sea through the International Law in reference to the United Nations Resolutions 390 V

In addition to the above , invasion of Tigray/Ethiopia in November 2020 has made the Algiers Agreement "Null and Viod" and Ethiopia's negotiation position to claim its access to Red Sea is further strengthened.

Therefore the following action is required by the Ethiopian government immediately:

- Declaration that the Algiers Agreement is "Null and Void' in reference to Eritrea's invasion of Tigray/Ethiopia in November 2020.
- As part of reversing the aggression of Eritrea, occupying the strip of land from the Assab Port to the Historical port of Adulis
- Negotiate with Post- Isaias Eritrea and secure Access to Red Sea.
