There are several possible reasons why some leaders talk too much:

They feel they must demonstrate their knowledge, to justify their role.

They aren’t aware that they are taking all the oxygen, since nobody has told them yet.

They don't care for unity or independence as long as there is business apportunity like horus said. I don't think መደምደር is a new idea or new philosophical theory in Ethiopia, Mengistu Hailamariam was using "Unity" as a maxim for Ethiopia his government had power over.

I am not sure what HIM was using to govern as a central goal of his government and vision.

The dismantling of the so called Zemene-Mesafint was a push to redefine Ethiopia as a united and strengthened country, which can withstand any sort of challenges facing it from within and without.

The man who saw the indispensability and absolute necessity of a United Ethiopia and pushed very hard for its realization as a modern state was no one else but the father of modern Ethiopia, who is Emperor Menelik II.

That push was to be rewarded and Ethiopia was to rerise once again as an indomitable Black African Nation, which will going to usher a new era and write a history of a world free of slavery and colonization, with equal rights for all, including for the black race.

What was Menelik's main maxim? Get united and make yourself strong!

Why did Mengistu Hailamariam fight for the whole of his reign? To realize a united and strong Ethiopia.

What is Abiy Ahmed trying to propone by his newly coind idea of MEDEMER and his government's central maxim of leadership? Get united and make yourself a strong nation that can withstand the challenges of the present time and those of the future.

He used Medemer to defeat the forces of balkanization that made Ethiopia that will keep fighting itself within itself.

He is trying to use the idea to defeat the modern era of Zemene-Mesafint.

So, why it is so difficult to understand the central message of the idea, independently of the designation the word?

Ethiopia was at the brink of collapsing when Abiy Ahmed came to power, infighting was so intensive, widespread and a total chaos were simmering in many parts of the country, just see what was going on between the two brotherly people of Somali (Ethio-Somali) and the Oromo people and many other similar situtations in the country back then (just before 4 or 5 years), which earned Ethiopia the reputation of one of the top countries in the world with highest IDPs.

Where did that title go today?

Does Ethiopia have one of the highest number of IDPs today? If not, then the maxim of medemer is making a tangible result and can produce even much more in the future.

I don't think it is much helpful if we keep critizing everything, even when the intention is not to harm the wellbeing of the nation but heal its wounds.
