Ever since the Jewish man, the American East Africa affair rep went to Addis and met the PMAA on his last trip, Abiy isn’t the same anymore. The Americans either showed him a lot of $$$ if he does what they say or they probably told him they would work hard to remove him from power. No wonder PIA seems to distance himself from him.
In any case, it is very sad what’s going on in Afar. The Fed forces are unwilling to help and the Amaras are just empty barrels who makes a lot of noice but not there to make real action.

Afar is Ethiopianist. Hence Abiy as an Oromuma sees Afaris as obstacle to his grandios hidden project. In essense, the difference between Oromuma and Tigray is competetion on power and resources. No ideological difference. Hence, Afar is too far for Abiy than TPLF. Afar is more close to Amhara in ideology and that is what we are seeing now.

This is my objective take, my attempt to call it as I see it, with no biases:
Calling Abiy an Oromo nationalist is the joke of the decade dude. He's as unpopular in Oromia as the other OPDO members who were created by the tigrayan elites and their then allies, Shabia, as a counter to OLF. They serve external forces, not internal (i.e. the Oromo masses).
Don't forget, his main targets has been anyone who threatened his power, regardless of ethnicity, from Oromo parties to Tigrayan to even some Amhara. Any Oromo nationalist elements in his party were purged or are now a tiny minority with little to no influence or power .
Amara unionists, urbanized Amara who see themselves as Ethiopian first and Amara 2nd, are his main allies, and those with their mentality, from non Amara groups, such as Berhanu Nega. Amhara nationalists look at him with suspicion, of course, but see him as the lesser evil when compared to Oromo nationalists. And since they have some enemies in common, such as the tigrayan elites and their supporters, they have a tactical alliance, at least for the time being. Remember, the Amara elites and their followers were talking about Welkait for a long time but didn't make a move until the war broke out, with the strong and efficient Eritrean forces moving in to help since The defence force was weakened and caught by surprise, apparently. And of course Eritrea did the right and logical thing. They have an enemy in the TPLF, an enemy who shamelessly claims Eritrean lands and ports, and have tried their best to isolate and weaken Eritrea, since their initial goal of overthrowing PIA and installing a puppet regime in Asmara failed.
Now, why are the federal forces absent, it seems, from Afar? What's going on? All we can do is speculate. But Abiy is failing his countrymen at the moment.
Is this his way of drumming up support to once again re-enter Tigray to attempt to finish TPLF once and for all? Even if that's the case, it'll just drag the war on. But does he have a choice? Or is something else occurring behind the scenes?
Time shall tell.
Btw when you and others use Oromummaa in a derogatory or insulting way, you are insulting all Oromo, even those you'd call ethiopianist, because Oromummaa means Oromo identity. It refers to the language, the culture, the history, etc. It's best to make it specifically about those whom you see as your political foes, and not all Oromo.
