Why is the USA asking TDF to slow down it's advance?

Three reasons:

- The Egyptian water issue: Egypt has been the behind organizer of all the instabilities Ethiopia faced over the last decade. From the killing of PM Meles and the coming of Abiy to power were all done by Egypt and Isaias as a foot soldier. Egypt expectation was for Abiy to sign a water share agreement that sustains the so called "historical rights". Abiy through the pressure of USA was almost to sign it but Ethiopian professionals handling the negotiation opposed and the Ethiopia team led by the then foreign minister Ato Gedu failed to show up on the signature date and Trump used to openly complain about that while he was on power.
From that day Abiy's relation with the USA, World Bank and IMF started to detoeoriate. At this stage Egypt is making the last effort to get the agreement signed with Abiy or the new government that replaces Abiy's government.
(I) For Abiy the offer is he signs the agreement and the USA will help him to stay in power. If not he will be removed.

(II) For the upcoming TPLF led government , Egypt with the support of USA is trying to get commitment for the signature of the agreement.

-;The USA is trying to minimize power transition related risks( lawlessness, civilian killings etc ) specially in Addis Ababa

- The USA as a neo-colonial super power would like to give it's blessing for any power change and make sure no power coming to govern Ethiopia will be against its geopolitical interests in the Horn of Africa

I hope the USA will not act as the agent of Egypt on the water issue! The USA has to have its own independent position and try to help both countries to commercialize the water issue and make it a driver of cooperation between the two historic countries.

Let us hope USA and EU are supporting TDF and allied forces regarding the dam. Egypt has no historical rights on Nile River. However, we should support Egypt and all riparian countries to get a fair share of The Nile River. The Dam will be under Ethiopia because only Ethiopia can take responsibility of maintaining the good flow of The Nile River. Egypt should be told to co-operate with Ethiopia. No need to use The Nile River as a political weapon.

The choice is simple: stay in your dryland and deal with TPLF thugs or try to come back to Amhara & Afar and get fried like fire bugs.
