The Russian Foreign Ministry described the events in Sudan as evidence of a severe crisis resulting from a failed policy over two years, and affirmed its confidence in the ability of the Sudanese people to solve internal problems on their own.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that, according to the information received, a group of soldiers in Khartoum on the night of October 24-25 surrounded the residence of the President of the Government of Sudan, Abdullah Hamdok, and arrested a number of members of his transitional government.

On October 25, the Chairman of the Sovereign Council, Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, announced a decision to dissolve the council and the transitional government, and also declared a state of emergency in the country.

"We proceed from the fact that such a development of events in Sudan has become evidence of a severe and comprehensive crisis that affected all areas of the country's political and economic life," the statement said.

He added: "This is a natural result of a failed policy pursued over the past two years, in which the transitional authorities and their foreign sponsors and advisors ignored the desperation and misery that the vast majority of the population experienced."

The statement indicated that "large-scale foreign interference in the internal affairs of the country led to the loss of confidence of the citizens of Sudan in the transitional authorities, which caused the outbreak of repeated protests and sparked a state of general instability in the country, including the actual isolation of a number of its regions."

The statement added: “We are convinced that the Sudanese can and should solve internal problems on their own and determine the direction of the sovereign development of their country on the basis of national interests. Russia will continue to respect the choice of the friendly Sudanese people and provide them with all necessary assistance.”
