On Monday, the US Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Jeffrey Feltman, said that attempts had been made to contact Sudanese Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok, but they were unsuccessful.

Feltman, in an interview with "Sky News Arabia", called for the release of detainees in Sudan, where members of the transitional government, including Abdullah Hamdok, were detained.
The US envoy said that the Sudanese army wanted to have the upper hand in the country, adding that he believed in the possibility of resolving the crisis in the country.
Feltman added that the Sudanese army had taken steps that obstructed the democratic transition in Sudan, "We hope to launch momentum in the transitional phase in Sudan."
The US envoy, who tried to defuse the crisis during the past few days, stressed that the Sudanese have the right to demonstrate peacefully.
A new reality in Sudan
On Monday, the head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council in Sudan, Lieutenant-General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, announced the dissolution of the Sovereignty Council and the Council of Ministers and the imposition of a state of emergency throughout the country.
Al-Burhan affirmed full commitment and adherence to what was stated in the constitution document regarding the transitional period, but announced the suspension of work on some articles.
Al-Burhan also announced the exemption of governors in Sudan, pledging to continue working to prepare the atmosphere for holding elections in the country.
He described what Sudan is currently going through as dangerous, in reference to the sharp political division that the country has witnessed recently.
The Forces for Freedom and Change in Sudan had called for a comprehensive civil disobedience in various parts of the country, in response to Al-Burhan's decisions.
In turn, Hamdok called on the Sudanese to "adhere to peace and occupy the streets to defend their revolution."
"What happened today represents a disruption of the constitutional document," said a statement issued by the Sudanese Prime Minister's office, which was placed under house arrest in an unknown location.
