U.S. Blinken voices support to Hamdok efforts to end strife in Sudan

October 16, 2021 (KHARTOUM) - U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken voiced his support to plan to end the ongoing crisis facing the transition in Sudan.

"We welcome Sudanese Prime Minister Hamdok’s leadership in laying out a roadmap of principles to sustain the democratic transition in Sudan," said Blink in a tweet posted on Saturday.

He further urged all stakeholders to take immediate, concrete steps to meet the key "benchmarks of the Constitutional Declaration".

Hamdok who is under pressure to dissolve his cabinet, on Friday, said the current crisis in Sudan is not between civilians and the military, but rather between the "democratic civil transition and the camp of overthrowing the revolution".

He further proposed a 10-point plan calling to end frictions between the FFC groups and broadening the base of the transitional government with more components.

Also, he rejected to freeze the Empowerment Removal Committee, before stressing that his initiative to deal with the political crisis would immunize the transition.

1_I do not think the position of Hamdok is threatened. ኣል-ረቢዕ ዓብድ ኣል-ሙንዒም - a political activist - describes Hamdok as a colourless person with a foreign agenda who is prepared to work with any one ( the army and civilians ) to implement his agenda. ኣል-ረቢዕ himself doesn't want to go as far as demanding the removal of Hamdok as long as the government is changed and the atmosphere of criminalizing people and declaring them as remnants of the Al-Bashir regime is terminated. ኣል-ረቢዕ has sympathy with the Islamists.

2_We have to be careful with the way we look at the mainly fake " demonstrations " in khartoum. Sudan is the playground of Egypt and the locals who work with them. There is no such thing as nationalism in the Sudan. As a scholar from the East - resident of Canada - once stated Sudan is just a geography.

Hamdok is currently weak but working to consolidate power with ultimate goal is getting the generals out of the way and become dictator for life (& the west is behind him)
