Based on Abiy's last three years activities and actions, we can clearly see a trend that he has been acting as a kind and ruthless emperor in handling his political competitors. He has been kind to those who submits to him but ruthless for those who do not accept his kindness and stop being his competitors. Historically we know that emperors demand absolute submission to their authority and severely punish to those who challenge them. That is what emperors lead in absolute dictatorship. For Abiy either you submit to him or he has to make sure that you are eliminated. See what he has done to Lidetu Ayalew, Eskinder Nega, Jawar Mohammed, Bekele Gerba etc. All of them could have been promoted within Abiy's government or given bribe investment money if they agreed to submit to him or leave him alone. See what he is doing to Tigray ! Tigray demanded for it's autonomy as per the constitution to be respected but Abiy sent all kind of forces including a foreign army to destroy and subdue it. However, Tigray defeated Abiy's and Isaias's army and humiliated them and pushed them out of Tigray. In response to thier defeat Abiy and his allies came with another cruel strategy of sieging and starving the Tigray people, while the whole world is watching the ongoing genocide. Abiy also handled TPLF same way: When he knew that they are not submitting to him and challenging him he started blackmailing them and finally tried to destroy them by force instead of resolving the political difference through peaceful win-win negotiation. As a conclusion Abiy is acting as a kind emperor to those who submits to him but ruthless genocidal dictator to those who challenge him. Abiy followed double standard of politically motivated selective punishment and he was stopped by TPLF. There are members of all parties under EPRDF who may have committed crimes ( even Abiy as a security chief is a suspect) and Abiy should have built the consensus among EPRDF how to handle the problem under one standard.
