My take on the Abiy "Open letter to the President of USA"

Post by Axumezana » 17 Sep 2021, 17:35

- Why the PM of Ethiopia has demoted himself to write an open letter to the USA president instead of using the official diplomatic channel?
- Very long letter that does not discuss the issues raised by the USA on the on going civil war while a number of irrelevant issues were included

- The letter reflects his frustration and desperation in non-diplomatic manner.

- Abiy claims it was TPLF that instigated war with Derg ( 17 years conflict) and Eritrea ( 1998-2000) war. This is a blatant denial of history! The UN has already established, after due investigation, that it was Eritrea that started the 1998 Ethio-Eritrea war.

- He claims he is the father of the Tigray children! With what moral ground he can claim to be father after the genocidal war he waved against Tigray by involving Isaias and the existing siege and the ongoing rhetoric to destroy Tigray by himself and his likes eg Daniel Kibret.

- He claims the USA is following double standard while putting pressure on him letting TPLF free. I think he has to internalize and try to find the reason rather than blind complain.
- He boasts about the change and democracy he brought to Ethiopia over the last three years including the June 21, 2021 election. The USA knows very well that Abiy arrested all of his promising rival politicians and silenced the independent media to prepare for an election without real competition.

- He claims TPLF is in a mission to destroy 3000 years old nation. His claim contradicts TPLF role in saving Ethiopia from disintegration in 1991 and stabilizing it for two and half decades.

- He claims Ethiopia is conducting "National war on terror" and he has indicated that the USA has to support Ethiopia as Ethiopia supported the "war on terror " that the USA was fighting in the region ( actually it was TPLF led government that supported the USA). Abiy is still blinded by the chain of lies he has been fabricating for himself and wants the USA to blindly believe his lies.

- He implicitly blames the USA on neo-colonialism

- He looks confused about the policy of the USA versus what certain "TPLF friendly USA officials" are doing. This demonstrates his naivety on how the USA diplomacy works.

- He mentions Ethiopia will not bow to pressure. This rhetoric is empty with out stopping the genocidal war and the humanitarian siege on Tigray.

As a conclusion Abiy's naive open letter is undiplomatic, irrelevant and will not help Ethiopia.

Thank you for highlighting the incoherence in Abiy's thinking and how his letter is full of factually incorrect historical accounts. The subject of Pres Biden's decision is peacefully resolving the conflict. And Abiy did not say whether he is going to address Biden's call or not.

Abiy is unable to independently decide the fate of Ethiopia, he is under the control of Isaias. That is why in the letter to the president of USA he lied that it was TPLF that started the Ethio-Eritrea war in 1998!

Axumzena. Like many of the leeches, you are unable to read and observe your environment. The letter on which dr Abiye send to the Joe Biden was more directed to the Ethiopian people than Biden. He is telling his subject that the country is under siege and external powers are doing all they can to undo the nation of 3000 years.

HI Axumexana: Whoever said TPLF started the "Ethio-Eritrean war in 1998" is correct

Neither you nor any international body can prove that Eritrea started that war. If PM Abiy has said "it was TPLF that started the...war in 1998", he is right. Not because he is the current PM of Etiyopiya, or Abiy Ahmed Ali from Beshasha, Kaffa, or he was a radio operator in that war, or he made peace with Eritrea, or he is under the control of Issaias, but because, I am convinced, the statement is true.

Why are you repeatedly raising the issue right now anyway? PM Abiy responded to USA President Executive Order as he sees it fit. It is alright to give your opinion on his response as you wish, but please make your comments based on facts. You often claim, in effect, that Abiy is 'a fool' guided by Issaias. I disagree, because their activities indicate that they are two independent leaders who want to work together to strengthen peace and security between their countries. Both had worked with and know TPLF very well. It is TPLF's & Co. wishes to see both of them be defeated thoroughly. The new change, or trendsetter, is the fact that more of the common citizens of Etiyopiya are showing militancy to defend their local and Federal State interests. Now we come to President Joe Biden's Executive Order.

President Biden has the legal power to issue an Executive Order to the U.S. Government departments, but he does not have any legitimate power to order the Federal Government of Etiyopiya to stop enforcing its own laws, or stop to respond to military attacks from TPLF in self-defense and protection of its people. If Mr. Biden has any humanitarian concerns regarding the TPLF-initiated conflict, it is best for him to work either directly in cooperation with Federal Government of Etiyopiya or through international humanitarian institutions. If not, President Biden's intervention would be seen as siding with the treasonous TPLF and sheltering it from facing the rule of law. And that would not be positively productive.

President Biden is not the legitimate Prime Minister (or leader, ruler or governor, etc.) of Etiyopiya; and he may advise as a friend, but cannot tell Etiyopiya what to do. Etiyopiya is an independent and sovereign Nation/State, and it did not ask President Biden to intervene in its internal matters. President Biden should let Etiyopiya be free to enforce the rule of law. It is to the best interests of the USA for President Biden to work with the legitimate Government of Etiyopiya and condemn TPLF's military violence against Etiyopiya(ns). Otherwise, Mr. Biden must take his hands off Etiyopiyan internal matters that have no significant impact on any (obvious or unspecified) U.S. national security interests. Let Etiyopiya decide for itself through its institutions, and it can. That is the best course to take for the sake of peace and security of Etiyopiya and the region at large.

I urge Axumezana & Co. to reconsider what I proposed and do away their misguided support to the treasonous TPLF and let Tigrayawian Etiyopiyans regain their peaceful lives.
