According to Europe External Programme with Africa (EEPA), in pictures of Seyoum, Asmelash and Abaye posted on Facebook by Transitional Government of Tigray administrator Mulu Nega, the three appeared to have been executed, with Seyoum shot in the forehead.[27] EEPA also stated that Seyoum, Asmelash and Abaye had been taken from their houses to Senafe in Eritrea, mistreated in Senafe, returned to the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF), and extrajudicially executed.[3] Mulugeta Gebrehiwot, former EPRDF member and founder of the Institute for Peace and Security Studies, stated on 27 January 2021 in a phone call with Alex de Waal that Seyoum and his companions had been found in a village with no army protection, caught by the Eritrean People's Liberation Front (EPLF) and executed. He described the ENDF and Eritrean Defence Forces (EDF) as killing "whomever they find" during the Tigray War
