Rev,
Not quite! TPLF HAS A SQUATTER'S RIGHT!! Samantha Power of USAID as a lawyer is aware of that!
Here in the US of A, it takes about 20 years to acquire legal title to real estate by adverse possession. If your possession has been “adverse,” you own it.
Adverse possession is the only example of squatter’s rights in property law. Whether that possession begins by innocent mistake or illegal trespass, 20 years or so makes you the legal landowner.
But, not just any 20 years of possession. Courts require 5 essential ingredients. Your possession must be:
Continuous,
Hostile or adverse,
Actual,
Open, notorious, and exclusive possession of the premises, and
Under claim of title inconsistent with that of the true owner.
So, if you take possession with the original property owner’s permission, it’s not adverse. It could become adverse, but would require solid proof that the original permission had been taken back . Without that proof, don’t spend 20 years expecting adverse possession to turn you into an owner.
The idea is that your possession must clearly notify the world that you’re in possession, and claim the land as yours. That real-life notice, warns other possible owners that you’re challenging their claim.
Fences, signs, or improvements aren’t required. What’s important is that your acts of possession ...show people in the neighborhood that you control the land.
Your possession starts the clock running on the 20 year statute of limitation for filing lawsuits to recover land. If the true owner doesn’t sue to kick you out within the 20 years , that land is your land. (Problem for TPLF because it is kicked out of the land! The original owners, Demeke & assoc. are still breathing on its neck too!)

That map is obsolete. How often do you update your map? Do you have obsolete map in your car? What would she do with 1960/70s map? Where's Amhara Region? Where's Afar Region? Where's Benshagul Region? Where's Somali Region?

Dawi totally missed the point. The squatters rights happens to be about a person who posses a land not of his own for a considerable time. TPLF is not a person. It is a political group that redraws the Ethiopian geography without the people who would be affected having any say in the matter.
By the way, we Ethiopians as I understand it do not live by the law of US. We have our own thank you very much.
The lady should stick with her assignment : helping Tigreans who need help.
As for the Geography of Ethiopia we seek no outside help.

You need the updated 2021 map which includes the 10th brand new Region - Sidama!

Samantha Power is living under the illusion that she is smart. First she tried to put pressure on the Amhara to withdraw from their own territories which were annexed by TPLF and then when she realised that was not possible she instructed the Tigrayans to venture into Amhara and Afar lands in order for her to sound reasonable when she comes out with her stupid withdrawal calls as if the Amhara territory is interchangeable with another Amhara territory. I believe she wants to see more bloodshed. She is evil.

Dawi,
You may be so right the squatter right ligally favors Tigray region. And it could very well win the case before the court, the USA court.
Fortunate, Tigray is in Ethiopia where the squatter right may not exist.

If only Tigreans separate themselves from TPLF gang? They can win their case in the court of law in Ethiopia.
If only they don't mix themselves with herd mentality and gang mentality, describing many of them who follow & hide under the skirt of TPLF. That is bringing the worst reactions among many Ethiopians.
It seems to me, these behaviors are adapted on a largely emotional, rather than rational, basis.
When individuals are affected by mob mentality, they make crazy decisions than they would have individually. TPLF is the culprit that is making Tigreans lose their shirts in their own country all over today.
It is sad to see "the color of their eyes" used against Eritreans by TPLF in the past is kind of repeating itself again.
