Tokyo: German coach to Eritrean cyclist " Camel d****"

Post by Roha » 28 Jul 2021, 17:44

Eritreans like me are in fact honored to be called Camel drivers! We and our Sudanese brothers feel unique to be close to our Arab teachers. After all we fought for more than 30 years to adopt the Arabian Camel Durimera as our official state emblem.
Our official language is not a backward African language like Tigre Tigrinya, it is the Arab's language of heaven that rewards you with 70 virgins, that is Arabic. So, a German calling me a Camel Driver makes me closer to the blessed people of peace the Arabs in Saudi Arabia.
No doubt, the Africans and the Agames will feel jealous that they are not called Arabs and Camel Drivers.

Here is how Cycling News reports the honor:

A German cycling coach has been forced to apologise after being captured on film urging one of his riders to 'get the camel drivers' as he chased opponents from Algeria and Eritrea.

Patrick Moster was filmed running behind Nikias Arndt at the Olympic time trial in Tokyo, with microphones clearly picking him up shouting 'Hol die Kameltreiber! Hol die Kameltreiber'.

Azzedine Lagab (Algeria) and Amanuel Ghebreigzabhier (Eritrea) had gone out before the German competitor. On German television, ARD commentator Florian Nass was left stunned, branding the comments 'totally wrong'. 'Words fail me,' he added.

Shouldn't some of us take pride in being called Camel Driver or ሰሓቢ ገመል ወይ ግመል ሳቢ?
This is what most Arabs did for centuries and that is some of us copied,
as we did Arabic instead of our own Tigrayt Tigrinya.
