An extract from a long article written by A Lebanese-American professor.
There is nothing that explains the American role in the Lebanese crisis more than the testimony of Jeffrey Feltman before the American Congress after the Lebanese collapse. He said, among other things; That:
1_ The Gulf states do not grant aid to Arab countries without American advice, request, and approval. Of course, the Gulf regimes have their clear and declared reasons for preventing aid from Lebanon and for contributing to its impoverishment.
2_ America is serious about preventing the accountability or prosecution of any of its corruption leaders (he named Mikati, Jumblatt, and Siniora).
3_Serving Israel and fighting its enemies is the first goal of American policy in Lebanon. This goal, since the sixties, has been the determining factor of US policy towards Lebanon.
There was a reason behind the visit of J.Feltman to the Gulf Countries before flying to Kinshasha. He wanted to put pressure on Ethiopia economically to help the Egyptian aim of getting full control of the Nile.
