Ethnic Federalism is the problem - we need to change to civic federalism.

Post by EthioRedSea » 25 Jul 2021, 09:57

Civic federalism should be the answer. Every ethnic group or individual should be respected where ever they live. There are about 10 million Amhara in Oromo Region. We hear they are subjugated to harassment and threatened. This shows ethnic federalism has not solved the problem of serving political equality to all ethnic groups.

Even if TDF takes over power, this does not solve the problem of peace and development. Equality is only guaranteed by law and not by an ethnic group armed with latest weapons. We need to make sure every ethnic group has a say in the future of Ethiopia.

The current administrative map of Ethiopia should change. Oromo Region is around Arrusi. Ogaden is Somali region etc. Amhara region should be divided into different provinces. So should also Tigray.

Ethnic federalism is leading Ethiopia to fragmentation and creation of smaller sovereign states. This is dangerous as Ethiopia will be weaker. The current conflict in Tigray is artificial created by Arabs and USA with EU as they are planning to take our land if they can. The recent coverage about Bahir Dar, Gonder by Arab media is an example. EU and USA are shading crocodile tears over Tigray. They do not care about Tigray. Their aim is to make sure Ethiopia becomes a weak country depending on hand outs just as during the Mengistu and Haile Selassie time. In fact EU and USA advised Abiy to start the war against Tigray.

We need to re-organize Ethiopia on unitary democratic or civic federal form. We need also to weaken Eritrea, a country which has been active in dismantling Ethiopia as a country.

Federalism is a mixed or compound mode of government that combines a general government (the central or "federal" government) with regional governments (provincial, state, cantonal, territorial or other sub-unit governments) in a single political system. Its distinctive feature, first embodied in the Constitution of the United States of 1789, is a relationship of parity between the two levels of government established. It can thus be defined as a form of government in which powers are divided between two levels of government of equal status.

Federalism differs from confederalism, in which the general level of government is subordinate to the regional level, and from devolution within a unitary state, in which the regional level of government is subordinate to the general level. It represents the central form in the pathway of regional integration or separation, bounded on the less integrated side by confederalism and on the more integrated side by devolution within a unitary state.

Examples of the federation or federal state include the United States, India, Brazil, Malaysia, Mexico, Russia, Germany, Canada, Switzerland, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Belgium, Argentina, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Australia. Some characterize the European Union as the pioneering example of federalism in a multi-state setting, in a concept termed the federal union of states.
Ethnic federalism is not a form of federalism. Ethiopia, even though has 30 years of Ethnic Federalism is not mentioned as example. We need to discard ethnic federalism.

I am not from Agame District. I am well from Tigray. TDF and allied forces will control Ethiopia. I think we need to review Ethnic Federalism and work for civic federalism. Tigray could be the new country. The world has already accepted Tigray as the new country to join UN. This is however difficult for Tigrayans because Ethiopia is Tigray.
