Ethiopia to establish Red Sea military bases

Ethiopia's Foreign Ministry announced yesterday plans for the country to establish military bases in the Red Sea.

The ministry's spokesperson Dina Al-Mufti made the announcement during a press conference in the capital Addis Ababa, stating that "various countries are showing an interest in controlling the Red Sea region by establishing more military bases than ever before".

He explained that his country is paying great attention to these developments, adding that it was "worrying".

Regarding the concerns of Egypt and Sudan after Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed recently announced the construction of new dams, Mufti replied: "What is the problem if the sovereign on his land says that we will build as long as his land is bound by international law? 100 or 1,000 new dams."

His comments were in relation to Ahmed suggesting that Ethiopia intends to build more than 100 small and medium sized dams, as "the only way to resist any forces opposing Ethiopia".

On Monday Egypt and Sudan concluded joint military drills amid the dispute with Ethiopia over its controversial Grand Renaissance Dam on the Nile River's main tributary. The six-day exercise was intended to showcase strengthened defence ties between the two Arab states.

Last year, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi inaugurated his country's largest military site on the Red Sea, the Berenice Military Base, located southeast of the city of Aswan. In addition to securing the southern borders with Sudan and bolstering Egypt's influence in the Red Sea, it has also been speculated that it could support anti-Iranian Gulf states and their western allies.

But let's say it is true for your deam sake. Then there are like 4 different country naval base in Djiboutti, there was rumours going around that Russia will also station its naval base in the Sudan red sea coast.
Now, why is Eritrea's case hurt your [deleted] or make you jump high like a monkey if we allow Ethiopia to have naval base on our seas?
After all, you know that we do have some Arab countries have bases inside Eritrea's seas.

Senior Naval Officer says Ethiopian Navy preparations consider protecting country from threats

Addis Abeba, June 4, 2021-The deputy commander and deputy chief of logistics at the Ethiopian Naval Force, Commodore Waletsa Wacha said that the navy is preparing by taking into account potential threats. The officer told a local newspaper that the country’s military capacity is able to withstand ‘any kind of enemy wherever it may come from’. The commander explained that works are underway to reorganize the navy into a single unit. “The preparation of the navy takes into account potential attacks that may come from sea.”

Commodore Waletsa said that the navy is working with the ground forces and the air force as well. “Our status makes anyone who plans on invading Ethiopia to think twice,” he said, further explaining that Ethiopia has organized and mobilized air, ground, navy and other security forces to ensure the country’s security. He also indicated that the army is preoccupied with mitigating the security crisis caused by the country’s enemies in addition to its regular duties of securing the borders. “Our enemies are using our internal gaps to attack us instead of facing us upfront.” he said, adding, “But the current status of the army is more than enough to defeat our enemies.”

The deputy commander of the navy noted that the army is free of political alliances in its design and that it is fulfilling its responsibility of defending the country’s sovereignty in the same manner. He said that members of the air force are equipped with ethics and advanced technology. The navy is also recruiting members and providing well researched and effective training according to Commodore Waletsa.

He expressed optimism about the capacity of the navy and reassured that the navy is ready to collaborate with other forces to fend off ‘enemies who are threatening the country
