I call for foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen to resign ASAP!

Post by temari » 30 May 2021, 20:14

Demeke played a major role in removing TPLF from power and I’ve a big respect for that but he is the wrong man to lead the foreign ministry. Under his watch we have lost Sudan, one of the closest friends of Ethiopia and now we are about to lose the US and the west. His performance in the foreign relations is absolutely devastating and is a big F.

Our foreign minister has no clue what his job is and is sitting idle while our country is heading to a disaster because of lack of professional diplomacy. I’m urging the government to move its arse and do something before things get out of hand. Sitting idle and clueless is the last thing what we need currently. Forget the Derg style slogans.

I’ve never thought that foreign ministry could be such a critical post for a country just like having a defense force. The feeling of having no good foreign ministry is for me just like having no defense forces and your country is wide open for any attack. This is a big lesson. We should never ever let clueless amateurs run the foreign ministry again. That’s just suicidal!

Demeke Mekonnen is owned by not only Isaias Afwerki but Abiy Ahmed and Berhanu Nega + Andargachew Tsige he also was a slave Negro for Notorious Meles Zenawi, Demeke is not a worker he is a obediant spineless manless puppet a prositute to whoever holds power in 4kilo
Asmara University Professor Semere Kesete: I think it is advisable to look at the past records to predict what lies ahead. If you carefully analyze all Eritrea’s diplomatic efforts, you would find a regular pattern. In most cases, Eritrea loses the diplomatic battle (Now Ethiopia loses the diplomatic battle following Eritrean Mistakes). In most cases, it couldn’t score a diplomatic success. The African Union’s vote in Sirte, Libya in 2008 is a clear example of the Eritrean Government’s diplomatic failure. Even Libya, supposedly best friend of the regime in Eritrea at the time, couldn’t show the volition to support Eritrea’s anti-sanction case. What we can expect from the current UN Security Council debate therefore not going to be different. There are indications that the Council will give full credence to East African government’s concerns and pass IGAD’s sanctions motions as they are.

This is a cheap shot. No, he shouldn’t resign. By the way every decision he made must have been approved by Abiy. Why not you say it is time for Abiy to go ?
The Ethiopian foreign ministry is responding to the American interference in Ethiopian internal politics. Your suggestion the Derg kind of slogans is a weak, in fact, bizarre comparison. Derg was socialist, and loves to irritate at least in slogans the US. Demeke is not Berhanu Bayou. He did not pick a fight with US. In fact, he tried to smooth out misunderstandings.
You exaggerate that we lost US, and we are going to lose Europe nonsense. Foreign policy is not as simple as you try to make it. Ethiopia is a rising star in Africa without exaggeration. No power would just walk out on Ethiopia right now.
Diplomacy is a two way street ; it starts by recognizing the other country sovereignty. The Biden African foreign poly crowd failed to acknowledge that fact.

Temeri

Although this is your internal affair and I rarely comment in your matters; why give in to US bullying? The US is doing this not because it cares for the DEAD Weyanes or its people, it is aim is to weaken Ethiopia by any means, in this case, using the “Tigrean Crisis” although there isn’t one and it is a law and order campaign by the central government; to help Egypt achieve its goal of preventing Ethiopia to use its own rivers.

Your foreign minister may not be the best person for that position over all, however, shuffling cabinet at this moment would send a wrong signal to the world community. What it needs to happen is, Dr. Abiy needs to surround Demeke with score of highly qualified advisers who specialize in various areas and make him stronger.

Why are you Ethiopians scared of the toothless US sanctions? Ethiopia probably has less than 2% of trade relations with the US; 85% of Ethiopia’s trade is with the East (China and India) and the rest it with its neighbors and the Middle East.

If US or UN sanction would collapse a country or a government, look no further than Eritrea. Eritrea has 0% trade deal with the US since the beginning and takes zero dollar from the USAID (which is a means of tool to control governments and countries); because the US has no leverage on Eritrea, it used the fake UN council to impose very hard sanction against it for 20 years; the result, Eritrea came out stronger that before that ables her to decimate its number one enemy, the Weyane. Again, don’t let the US bullying you into becoming their servant hence the Egypt’s servant. The old man Biden isn’t going to be in power come 2024 and a new administration always being a new opportunity; so stand your ground.

The root problem is EPRDF arrangement where TPLF leaders were exposed to decision making in the affairs of all of Ethiopia. The others inside EPRDF and EPRDF affiliates didn't have the exposure.

This created many experienced leaders from within TPLF and many experienced followers from the rest. When TPLF went down, their replacements were unprepared for leadership.

This is systemic problem, not just one Minister or Ministry.

Eden, that is nonsense you know it. Seyoum Mesfin , the foreign minister, was a person who could not read and understand the decision made about Badma.
No, Eden the politics has been changed. When your uncles were in power showing Ethiopian nationalism might be somehow a crime. One would be called an “Amhara tmktegna.”
Dmeke is singled out as “ incompetent” for embarrassing Ethiopian nationalism.
I am as incompetent as Demeke because I love Ethiopian nationalism the same way he does.

Systemic problem ? No example of things that have gone wrong because of " systemic problem " or the absence of figures like Gebru Asrat. To believe that suave diplomacy always works is naive.

temari,

the problem with your position is that you produce no fact to justify your assertion? Why should Demeke resign? Givereasons.
The only reason you have is your fear of losing America! First, what makes you sure that America walks out of Ethiopia? Expect more meetings, talks, negotiations, and more balanced solutions. You have not even followed the Vodafone deal. Ethiopia gave the deal to the America group in order to balance China's level of singular dominance in our economy. My point is that America is not going to simply walk away from 120 million consumer market. So, the real issue is that you seem to be one of those people whom I call folks with American dependence syndrome. We all know the Ethiopian regime suffers from lack high caliber state managers and leaders. TPLF was worse. But if you make specific assertion, back it with facts. Demeke's work with Russia is a super job!

Well said, Digital Weyane! This discussion may be Ethiopians issue-what is good for their country. But as euroland and others have indicated above, don't let the west or east, for that matter, intimidate you for that is precisely what they are aiming at.

Tamari catastrphizes everything then reasons as if the west will response if A replaces by B. Susan rise and Twedros' buddies at UN want nothing but a complete capitulation. In this case diplomacy works only at the ages. It's not the luck of deplomacy but the stand Abiy or demise took that is the problem. but have they prepared and chosive enough to keep the pressure at Bay by western ..cause America seems to have several [deleted] to bush using regional actors. There is nothing Abiy& Demek Co can do to appace America The removal of Abiys government is the only thing that is going to satisfy America.. so Abiy needs to grow a steel ball to weather this storm...dose he have it ? That is a million dollar question.

Since the introduction of US sanctions on Ethiopia and what not Temari has been acting erratically and irrationally at least from what he use to advocate and say about Ethiopia.
what’s going on here????

(I'm trying not to laugh here.) What temari is saying is that, the Ethiopian government should have used diplomatic means, as opposed to military, in response to TPLF's terrorist attacks against the Ethiopian northern command forces. He thinks that the Ethiopian government's use of force in self defense is a sign of poor diplomatic skills. And the government's refusal to heed to US' calls for negotiation with the TPLF terrorist group is a foreign policy blunder.

That's something you would expect Getachew Reda to say, not temari.

I agree to some extent that PM Abiy is also to blame and if things continue with such pace and we lose the US and the west, then we should also call for PM Abiy to resign. That is a sign of a big leadership failure but for now I am calling only Dekeme to resign because unlike other ministries I see simply no strategy or action plan or passion from him to save our foreign relations. He is just hiding and sitting idle. That is not acceptable at all.

The problem with you is that you reply before you read. I gave you three main reasons:
1. We have lost one of the most closest countries Sudan under his watch
2. we are now in the process of losing the US and the west
3. and most importantly he has shown no strategy, no passion and no competence to improve our relations at all. He has no clue what to do and hence just seats idle. In this very critical times he doesn't even travel to do his job.

I'm just evaluating his performance i.e. what he achieved as a foreign minister and most importantly which efforts he made and is making to improve the performance. He is just a clueless wrong man at the foreign ministry in such a critical time for us. We need very experienced, dedicated and passionate professional diplomat as foreign minister. The time of experimenting with inexperienced amateur is simply costing us way too much.

Again don't tell me about American interest. I know that. I am not for us to become YES men. Absolutely not. I am only asking that we become dedicated, hard working and professional in foreign diplomacy. I'm asking the foreign ministry to do its job and stop being clueless bystander.

Susan rise is nothing but the product of woyane diplomacy skills. I'm just asking the foreign ministry to do everything it can to bring Susan rise & co. to its fold instead of crying and whining about her. If woyane could manipulate her why not we? See, that is exactly what I'm asking. Go and meet her and any other influential officials, try to be their friend, hire lobbyists, bribe them if you can and do whatever it takes to achieve our national interest. Sitting idle and whining and saying how the US is unjust, Sudan is cruel, Susan Rise is corrupt etc. is the definition of a failure in foreign diplomacy.

Why am I so alarmed by the US sanctions? I know the current visa restriction is nothing for Ethiopia. I'm just seeing what could come if things go like this. If the US goes to IMF, World Bank and other institutions that have been supporting PM Abiy's economic reforms which has the private sector at its heart, we can kiss economic growth good bye!

Without fast economic development the people of Ethiopia will surely start revolting because of unbearable living conditions. The social and political problems will be widened and the state will not have a capacity to cope with such crises which most likely would lead to a state collapse. My point is that without economic growth Ethiopia will end up in a state collapse and without good relations with the west there will be no economic development. Ethiopia is not Eritrea, our country is very big and complicated with very deep routed divisions and no government in Ethiopia will last long if the economic burden becomes unbearable. My fear is not that the US will suddenly invade us or something, no. My fear is that without the west and economic development the Ethiopian state will never be able to cope with the unrest and rebellion leading to its collapse.

That is the reason why I will be against any government that is heading to this very dangerous path.

Come on. We are doing very well in many sectors without TPLF "experienced" leaders. Our economy is in much better position and many of the sectors like the ICT are way better now. The private sector has now much better support from the government and the banking sector than before. Human rights, freedom, media, democracy and many many areas are much better now than under the TPLF.

The only sector I admit TPLF was better is foreign diplomacy. The current government sucks at foreign relations and is performing way below TPLF! That is fact!

Susan Rice (2006): The American people have no stomach for sending our troops to Somalia, so let's send TPLF forces to invade and occupy the country, and we will credit them for achieving the biggest diplomatic triumph since Emperor Yohannes IV's expedition to Magdala.

Susan Rice: (2021) The wind of change blowing in Ethiopia has unfortunately deprived us of "experienced leaders" like the weyane, and the only person we were able to find who's willing to take our orders is temari, and he's a cyber-dwelling self-styled diplomat with unflinching courage to never give up his comfortable life in the West. Like the TPLF's "experienced leaders" he admires the most, temari is only good at being a drive-by critic, but with a little diplomatic bribe, we may be able to use him to impose our will on the unwilling majority. Thank God for TPLF's "experienced leaders" who produced so many students (temari), all hope is not lost.

Even for an amateur, he was doing so well, until he blew his cover with no one's help by blowing his own horn, that is, when he couldn't resist the temptation to brag about how "experienced" he is compared to Demeke Mekonnen. HAHAHAHA
