Today, Amhara Regional State of Ethiopia, in what is an obvious admission of the ethnic cleansing it has been undergoing for the past sixth months; and in contradiction of the prevailing constitution of the land which gives regional states their own sovereignty; in an open aggression against the federal arrangement and existing constitutional order; and in defiance of international norms, is calling the entire land which used to be inhabited by 800,000-1,200,000 Tigrayans to be distributed to Ethnic Amhara farmers and investors from other parts of Amhara.
800,000-1,200,000 Tigrayans who for generations lived in Western Tigray are now either killed, forcibly evicted, or kept in concentration camps in Amhara. Having committed a 100% cleansing of Western Tigray of its Tigrayan inhabitants, the Amhara regional state is now openly calling its people(Ethnic Amhara) from distant Amhara lands to come and get the lands, the homes, the properties of Tigrayans and divide it among themselves. A letter written on 02/09/2021(10/05/2021) openly invites Ethnic Amhara investors and farmers to take the newly annexed Tigray's vast land, and distribute it amongst themselves. This is a medieval period thinking, and outrageously genocidal in intention!
This is not only gross violation of national and international norms, but also an open revolt against international order. These act of forced eviction, mass killings, keeping civilians in concentration camps, systematic starvation, weaponized rape; and annexation of their lands (including their agricultural lands) fit the international definitions of war crimes, crimes against humanity, including “GENOCIDE”
What was named "a law enforcement operation" actually is meant to cleanse a vast Western Tigray of its inhabitants (Tigrayans) by all means, and annex it, uproot the farmers from their lands, so that generations of Tigrayans live in an absolute destitution. This act of annexation of Western Tigray will also result in famine in the months to come.
Seb-Hidri civil society Tigray strongly condemns the ethnic cleansing committed by Amhara Regional state in Western Tigray; the subsequent illegal annexation; and the open call to transfer land to newcomers (settlers) from distant Amhara places.
We strongly condemn the Ethnic cleansing, war crimes, crimes against humanity, incluidng “genocide committed by the Amhara Regional State in Western Tigray.
We call upon the international community to stop this highest level of blood thirst and madness of the Amhara regional state government, the Amhara elite, the Ethiopian Federal government. We also call upon the international community to stop the impunity, and bring the perpetrators of the crimes to justice.
