As expected, Telebirr is penetrating every aspect of life.
Today, a traffic fine digital payment solution via telebirr was launched.
የትራፊክ ቅጣት በቴሌብር!

Drivers can now pay their traffic penalty immediately from their driver seats saving the age-old paper-based payment system and the drivers’ time and money.

How convenient!

Temari, I admire your optimism but I am afraid you will be disappointed. I understand you just mean it well and you love your country but you can’t dismiss the realty in the ground. For any nation to reach the promise land you need, strong leader, corrupted-free society, a rule of law, peace and stability. As long as you have corrupted officials and tricky leaders, there is no hell you can talk about progress and prosperity. What you hear from Abiy is a fake show that will take the country in to abyss.

. Drawbacks or disadvantages of Mobile Money
Following are the drawbacks or disadvantages of Mobile Money:
➨The customers are required to obtain compliance from the respected banks.
➨Lack of interoperability between networks restricts reach and makes transactions cumbersome.
➨Adoption of mobile money usually requires multi-party involvement (viz. agents, governments, corporations etc.). The trust is needed between these in order to have successful mobile money platform.
➨The ignorance and illiteracy from people need to be reduced in order to have wide acceptance of the system.
➨It requires app to be installed which is not available in all the mobile phones. Smart phones are needed for this purpose.
➨It is advisable not to provide passwords and other details to anyone. Failing to do so will lead to scam and theft.
Sorry to say this but you clearly don't know what you are talking about. You don't need to have a bank account for Mobile Money. Your phone is your account. That is exactly one of the advantages with Mobile Money and that is the reason why it is spreading in Africa like wild fire. Over 1.7 Billion Africans already use mobile money. Mobile Money reaches the billions Africans who don't have bank accounts. You don't even need a smart phone or an app. An old phone with SMS is enough to participate in Mobile Money. All of a sudden Africans who never had a bank account can participate in the banking system i.e. pay for services, receive money, transfer money to their relatives who live in rural area etc. without the need to have a bank account or a bank nearby. Mobile Money is indeed truly a game changer in Africa! Please do some research.

What Kenya can teach its neighbors — and the US — about improving the lives of the “unbanked”
With cellphones in widespread use, getting everyone access to banking is within reach.

By Kelsey Piper Sep 11, 2020, 8:00am EDT

In a rural village in Kenya, a woman sets out to do her food shopping for the day. She needs cash before she heads to the market, but the nearest bank would be several days’ walk. Instead, she takes out her phone and texts a password and a request for money. A few minutes later, she meets a man with a cellphone and receives cash from him — the withdrawal that she made on her phone. She heads off, ready to do her errands.

Welcome to the world of mobile money banking.

In much of the world, people don’t live near banks or have bank accounts. In Senegal, for example, only 8 percent of the population has a bank account. In Uganda, it’s 11 percent. For a long time, that meant those people were locked out of the financial system — unable to straightforwardly send money, save it, buy things without cash, or get loans. But in the age of the cellphone, it has become possible to access the key functions of a financial system without getting a formal bank account.

First taking off in Kenya in the early 2000s, cellphone-based banking in the country has in many ways surpassed payments systems we have in the US. Research suggests that the fast spread of these mobile money systems led to significant economic growth in the areas affected. More than a decade later, it’s not always easy to pay for your groceries on your phone in the US, but in parts of Africa, mobile money systems are ubiquitous. In Uganda, 43 percent of people have a mobile money account. In Kenya, it’s 72 percent.

Telebirr has received a green light from the National Bank of Ethiopia to launch micro credit and saving services. This is exactly why Telebirr is a game changer. It will reaches million unbanked citizens with financial and banking services (no bank account and bank branch needed). That is why Africa's mobile money is the leading in the world.

Temari

As usual, you have shared a very good news that will surely benefit ordinary Ethiopian citizens immensely.
This, as you correctly put it, is a game changer for the people in general and for the economy in particular.
As you are well aware, in this day and age of technology in the developed world access to services are at the tips
of your fingers. Digital technology is becoming the way forward. You can accomplish so many things from the comfort of your home
that were not possible before. For instance, online banking has changed everything for the better. As long as you have enough fund on your account
you set up a direct debit online and your money will swiftly and automatically leave your account every month to pay for bills. Can it be easier than this?
With this in mind, the introduction of telebirr in your country can only improve the quality of life of your fellows. Don't worry about the naysayers. They don't seem to have understood this massive advantage that comes with this technology. I wish similar technology be introduced in my country, Eritrea.
