The 4 Eras (continued).

Post by DefendTheTruth » 15 Apr 2021, 17:38

Ethiopia seems now to have leaped forward and said she will like to have "the advantage of a late comer" and directly and declared to have dived into the Era of Intelligent Entrprise, the 4th and currently latest Era in the development life cycle of electronic data processing endeavor.

I am aware that I could be not the best man to answer how this could be realized but still have my own reservation, based on my little understanding of the subject matter.

I wrote this topic after I came across some training documentation in the internet and got impressed very much and overwhelmed, didn't know what to say, felt that my country was left out and the cost could be devastating and wanted to share what I came across here, before 2 years, on 30th April, 2019, to be more precise.

viewtopic.php?f=17&t=182086&p=1172595#p1172595

I shared a one page graphic representation of the 4 Eras from this document with the head of an IT company in the western countries, whom I met at one occassion and he replied saying "he simply wishes that the relevant decisions makers in the company will realise this potential in due time"

In the country where this company is placed almost every business process has already been automated (successfully realized/reached the stage of business process automation) and digital transformation is in a full swing.

My view is that you can't efficiently realize the Era of Intelligente Enterprise before successfully established the Era of Digital Transformation and you can't jump start from Digital Transformation without already successfully completed (established) Business Process Automation.

The preceeding Era feeds into the following Era, that is my understanding currently.

The last time I visited Ethiopia I went to a government administrative office for some service and they were still carrying around office folder and they asked me to go and buy a "klaster" for my case (the file wrapper that we always used in offices to keep files).

It is unfortunate that we are still keeping killing each other while the rest of the world is already in fierce competition to control the world.

Still Ethiopia thinks it can leap forward directly to the 4th stage in its effort of the digitalization of the nation, I still doubt that would be effective or viable.

Nobody can rival us Ethiopians when it comes to grandiose fantasies. I remember when Guad Menge proclaimed his socialist administration plans to eventually develop the atom bomb. Whether its Menge or Abiy, its the same grandiose propaganda.

Technology is now the very soul of a nation's economy, infrastructure, national security and national sovereignty. Actually, we are so far behind it is going to a massive national effort to simply become an end user.

For example, soon the Internet technology will be replaced by Blockchain technology. The financial and monetary use of Blockchain is already disrupting the idea of money as we know it. The world is moving away from the dollar and other currency systems controlled by specific nations.

The non-currency use of Blockchain is very easy to apply; all we need is a massive high computing hardware which we can purchase and a lot of electric power which we we have. Blockchain technology which simply a glorified and super massive ledger system የሂሳብ መዝገብ that is already being used in the MoE.

Of course, Blockchain as Internet of things (values) is going to kill the Internet which is the internet of information. But we are not even fully in the world of internet of information let alone internet of things.

More interesting and critical is the war on AI and Drone technology. We are at bottom of the world of automation and we must not and should not start from the step one. we must all we can to jump on AI and automation and drone science. Why?

Currently, the essential struggle between USA and China is exactly on these 3 areas - Drones, AI, and 5G!

Military power has now less to do with soldiers, tanks and other old school weapons. It is the era of irregular warfare that includes superiority in the control of software applications, news information and social media platforms (what we see on our computers, phones and tablets) as well as superiority and control of the Internet, the Blockchain hardware, cellular phones, satellites, fiber-optic cables and the 5G networks.

Every nation that uses these products by USA and China is also under surveillance of the 2 super-powers. So, we have start somewhere! From here on it is not essentially an old school army that protects our economy, infrastructure, national security and sovereignty. It is internet, blockchain, 5G, Drone and AI technologies.

We are placing the cart before the horse when dreaming about AI and blockchain. Reality check: less than 1% of the ethiopian population currently subscribes to reliable broadband. The primary reason being the shoddy service provided by the state telecom monopoly. The reluctance of the govt in letting go of the monopoly of its telecom licence for the sake of eavesdropping and surveillance will ensure the ethiopian population will lag a good 200 years behind in Internet penetration. The Safricom deal is encouraging but privatisation needs to accelerate 100 times faster if we are to make up the lost years of digitisation under woyanne.

Foreign banks need to be allowed to enter Ethiopia. Currently only two banks dominate the banking scene, both being state banks. Its this way because the govt wants to have the upper hand in controlling the economy, which it can't do if lending is dominated by private foreigner lenders. But it's better to relinquish a degree of control for the sake of accelerated growth that will result from easily available capital. Companies that dream of AI or blockchain or creating an african silicon Valley can only begin with cheap capital being available which we currently don't have and cheap digital infrastructure which we definitely definitely dont have yet. But all can be accomplished in a 20 year time span, provided the govt curbs its urge to control everything and every sector and allows capital inflows from abroad as well as privatise at breakneck speed.

Dejazmach,
I am having difficulty grasping your point. Whether a bank is private or state owned can use Blockchain technology for its data management. As we speak the Ethiopian ministry of Education is using Blockchain. Do you know what Blockchain is?

The lack of Digital Transformation is being felt now finally.

Digital Transformation (DT) can only happen when integration (of the systems) is done well, where there is no integration there is also no meaningful DT and where there is no adequate DT there will be no meaningful Intelligent Enterprise (which is also another form of AI).

The much talked about AI can't happen before there is an adequately integrated information processing is a reality. Here in the following video the report indicates that digital ID (electronic ID) couldn't be issued because institutions are not yet integrated, if you are not integrated then you can't also access the required data.

In the abscence of data there is no automation, automation lives from data, in the abscence of automation there is no AI.

This could have been a big scandal for the likes of Ethio360 and other mob lead propaganda machineries but they are not up for the task, we didn't call them inept and illitrate mobs without a reason.

Ethiopia 360 has become the source of reliable news and information for Ethiopians both at home and abroad.
This can’t simply be countered by spreading lies and attacking personalities. Why is the public opinion very much ignored by PP supporters?? Or is the public thought of gullible to fall for Ethio 360 presumed propaganda?

It is an era of Genocide. An era of mass murder by the government of Ethiopia in collaboration with the OLF.

@ethio360 they are doing a fantastic job exposing the Abiye regime,

In just 4 years under Abiye Ahmed so far half a million people have died.

They say now they have built a state of the art data center.

In this respect I think they mean to have built a cloud computing technology, else it can't be called a state of the art, in my view.

If they have built a cloud technology in the country then the next question should be what is the underlying technology or model of the services?

A cloud technology is not a mere data storage, it should provide for the enabling technological services.

If there are services that are provided then there should be a distinction between the form of the services:

Infrastructure-Services
Platform-Services
Application (or software) Services.

If you have built an infrastructure then still without a platform you can't build an adequate application, without an application you can't yet solve the real world problems and address the challenges. So, it can't be state of the art, I should add.

We need to know more about the details.

Dejach Aklilu,

Is bizaree when promoting foreign banks. Ethiopia is already controlled by global banking system is aka colonization but you dont' see that. Do you remember why Meles Zenawi killed Ethiopian Bank president, when Tplf came in and stole the gold reserve? Find the answer to that. Ethiopia can no longer develop or have banking system without ties to Globalist that seeks worold domination

In the following video Mrs Frehiwot Tamiru, General Manager of Ethiotelecom, never used the term IoT (Internet of Things) in the whole of her explanations, which is the foundational technology of what she decribed. Smart Home, Smart Mining, Smart..., what ever.

At the same time she also said that they are teaching the kids about the new technology by introducing them to it at their early ages.

One of the Pillars of the 3rd Era of Information Processing, Digital Transformation, and transition to the 4th Era, Intelligent Enterprise, is the IoT. IoT's role is in making data available to the requirements or applications of the respective Era.

IoT's core component is the so called (data) sensor, one way of capturing data, as part of a Big Data enterprise/processing.

This will make a massive data available (in addition to other sources of data), which needs to be processed to extract the required information.

This in turn requires a massive computing power, among others, and an adequate data transfer bandwidth.

I think the contribution of 5G telephone protocol is the second part of these requirements, data transfer, with adequate bandwidth.

Data has to be processed in order to extract the needed information (before or after the transfer), information is used to make or support decision(s). Decision making can be done either by humans or by machines, such machines are also called Artificially Intellegent (AI). The robotics we see in the video are the application of Artificial Intellegence. The so called autonomous machines, exa. Taxis (self-driving taxis), other kinds of machines we come across today in many different places of our daily lives are such applications.

Capture or gather data (in all forms) and then process it to extract information and use the information to support decision making by humans or machines.

This is the logical sequence of the whole setup, if one of the links is missing then the viability of the whole is much in doubt in my view.

Now I know who the man in charge of Ethiopia's "Digital Transformation" program is: Dr. Abiyot Bayu.

But I bet to differ and claim the man is not fit for the position, he is not well equipped with required technical concepts of the subject area, if what I wrote under this thread is anything to go by.

The guy called Samson Kasa should explain first the meaning of his job position አለም ኣቀፍ የትክኖሎጂ አማከሪ, what the heck is that?
Before reading something on his handy infront of a camera!

"International Technology Consultant" never heard of it.

What is at stake here is not so easy, think it twice.

State Minister should vacate her position ASAP, she has no idea of what a digital economy is.

I was thinking today about the possibility of providing Ethiopian decision makers with the required tooling and above all the data to use for their decision making and see how much they can perform better. Unfortunately they are at the disadvantage on the global scale.

There is a saying with regard to decision making "garbage in; garbage out" in reference to making decision without the required data, in the required format, at the required time, where it is required (which is also technically called information logistics).

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is where by the decision making itself is overtaken by the machine itself, instead of just limited to provisioning the needed information, as part of the information logistics.

Data get processed and generate information. Information is used to make decision. In the case of AI this is overtaken by the machine itself, instead of the human decision maker. This is the conceptual foundation of the matter of AI.

Without the appropriate data (or more precisely, information logistics) AI is simply a vague ambition, and more precisely lack of the understanding of the conceptual foundation, in my view.

Before you can have an elaborate information logistics there is no viable AI. And having an information logistics is not what somebody can achieve overnight or by any single institution or organisation. This is a collaborative undertaking at many levels.

I don't know why the above video has been removed, the link is no more valid, but still I decided to comment on this video here, which I came across in the internet today.
