Omna Tigray calls Biden-Harris Administration to take immediate action using its power to stop the genocide in Tigray

We urge the Biden-Harris Administration to take immediate action using its complete power to stop the genocide in Tigray, and advocate for an end to the war.

Sanctions

The United States should impose economic sanction on all Ethiopian-origin imports, U.S. exports, and suspend all Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), pending a cease-fire and unrestricted humanitarian and media access to Tigray.

The United States should impose a travel ban on all Military Officials and Generals.
The United States should impose an arms embargo to cut off military supplies to the Ethiopian government until peace is restored in the country.

The United States should work with its allies to ensure similar UN mandated economic and military sanctions are imposed until the Ethiopian government agrees to a cease-fire and allows unrestricted humanitarian and media access to Tigray.

The United States should work to impose the previously lifted UN Security Council arms embargo and targeted sanctions against the Eritrean government. Eritrea under President Isaias Afewerki continues to be a destabilizing factor in the Horn of Africa.

Investigations

The United States should withhold its aid to the Ethiopian government until the following investigations are fully conducted.

The United States should request for an independent investigation into the steps taken by the Ethiopian and Eritrean governments to initiate the war on Tigray prior to November 4, 2020.

The United States should request for an independent UN-led only investigation into all massacres, particularly the Mai Kadra massacre.

The United States should request for an independent UN-led only investigation on how Amnesty International and the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission handled and reported on the crimes committed in Tigray since November 4, 2020.

The United States should request an independent investigation on ethnic profiling and discrimination against Tigrayans, especially the institutionalization of it in the state apparatus.

The United States should request for an independent investigation into the involvement of government-owned Ethiopian Airlines in the war on Tigray.

The United States should request for an Independent UN-led only investigation on mass-killings of civilians, rape, mass looting, destruction of industries and infrastructure, burning of crop-fields, especially by Eritrean forces and Amhara Militia.

The United States should request for an independent UN-led only investigation on Prime Minister Abiy Amhed’s respect for the Ethiopian constitution and the borders of the federal regions.

Reparations: post-investigation, the United States should demand the reparation for those who suffered the outcomes of this senseless war. (As was done to the Eritrean government after the 1998 border war.)
Investigation into the arrests of the dependents of retired and/or active members of TPLF and generals; emphasis on US citizens i.e. retired General Tsadkan’s children.

Advocacy

The United States should more directly intervene to remove Eritrean forces, Ethiopian forces, and Amhara militias out of Tigray.

The United States should push for unfettered humanitarian access and a cease-fire to all hostilities in Tigray at its position at the UN Security Council.

The United States should push for unrestricted independent media access into the region to establish the reality of the conflict.

The United States should urge individual countries that have development partnerships with the Ethiopian government to push for all-inclusive national dialogue.

The United States should facilitate dialogues with UNESCO and relevant parties to address looted heritage sites and religious artefacts from Tigray.

Once a cease-fire is under war, the United States should facilitate a platform for key governmental and non-governmental parties to play mediator role between different actors in the conflict.

Omna Tigray was founded by a collective of international Tigrayan professionals from various backgrounds in response to the war and genocide waged on Tigrayan people on November 4, 2020. Omna Tigray is a nonprofit nonpartisan global organization in the US, Canada, Europe, and Australia with a purpose to effectively advocate for an end to the war, call for unrestricted humanitarian aid to the Tigrayan people, and promote the economic development of Tigray. Omna means “our large tree” in Tigrigna. Om is a tree with plentiful branches that keeps growing, and this signifies that despite adversity, Tigray will continue to grow, flourish, and reach new heights. The word Omna fully encompasses the mission and vision of our organization.
