In Praise of Sibhat Nega - the modern Ras Mikael Sehul

Sibhat Nega has no title except the sobriquet "aboy" to indicate the then elderly age among the young Woyanie Tigrayan fighters.
Aboy Sibhat was born and grew up as Woldeselassie Nega in a small town of Adwa in northern Tigray long before he adopted his nom-de-guer.
With no royal blood like Haileselassie and the Showan aristocrats, and with no military training like Col Mengistu and the Dergue, aboy Sibhat was the the founding father, the center and brain behind what came to be known as the Woyanie TPLF movement. He created a large security and military force and network and a large economic oligarchy that came to rule and own the entire Ethiopia for about 30 years, from 1991 - 2021.
There was no Meles Zenawi, Hailemariam Desalegn or Debretsion G, Mikael without Sibhat Nega. This is what makes his comparison with Ras Mikael Sehul perfect, giving their birth place of Adwa and the way they operated politics behind the curtain, moving their puppets left and right as they wish.


Mikael Sehul (Tigrinya "Mikael the Astute" – his name at birth was Blatta Mikael; (born c. 1692—died 1784, Adwa, Eth.),a Nobleman who ruled Ethiopia for a period of 25 years as regent of a series of weak emperors. He brought to an end the ancient Solomonic dynasty. He was also a Ras or governor of Tigray 1748–71 and again from 1772 until his death. He was a major political figure during the reign of Emperor Iyasu II and his successors until almost the time of his death.

The Scottish explorer James Bruce met Sehul during his stay in Ethiopia, and recorded the following description of the Ras when he granted Bruce an audience:

We went in, and saw the old man sitting upon a sofa; his white hair was dressed in many short curls. He appeared to be thoughtful, but not displeased; his face was lean, his eyes quick and vivid, but seemed to be a little sore from exposure to the weather. he seemed to be about six feet high, though his lameness made it difficult to guess with accuracy. His air was perfectly free from constraint, what the French call degagée. In face and person he was liker my learned and worthy friend, the Count de Buffon, than any two men I ever saw in the world. They must have been bad physiognomists that did not discern his capacity and understanding by his very countenance. Every look conveyed a sentiment with it: he seemed to have no occasion for other language, and indeed spoke little.

What a parallel!!
Ras Mikael Sehul was the man who was responsible for destruction of Ethiopia for at least for 100 years.
He was the man who created the Zemene Mesafint/Era of princes after he deposed Emperor Iyoas in May 1769. During this period Ethiopia was de facto divided within itself into several regions with no effective central authority. Ironically this history is repeated by the person that you are now Praising!!

ዘመነ መሳፍንት የትግራይ ጦስ እንደሆነ ያውቃሉ?


ዘመነ መሳፍንት ጅምሩ እንዲህ ነበር።

በ1737 በጎንደሩ ንጉሰ ነገስት በዓፄ እያሱ ፪ኛ ዘመን የነበሩት ከግብፅ የተላኩት ጳጳስ አቡነ ክርሰቶደሉ ስላረፉ ሌላ ጳጳስ እንዲመጣ መልዕክተኛ ወደ ግብጽ ተላከ። ከዛም ቱርኮች በምፅዋው ገዥ በናይብ ትዕዛዝ መልዕክተኞቹን ምፅዋ ላይ ዘርፈው ወደግብጽ አሳለፏቸው።

በኋላም ጳጳሱን ይዘው ሲመለሱ አስረው አጉላሏቸው። በዚህ የተበሳጩት ብርሃን ሰገድ አፄ እያሱ በወቅቱ የተንቤን ገዥ ለነበሩት ለስዑል ሚካኤል ሂድና የምፅዋውን ገዥ ናይብን ተበቀል ብለው መልዕክት ላኩበት።

ስዑል ሚካኤል ግን ከናይብ ጋር በጥቅም ተሳስሮ ስለነበረ አሻፈረኝ አለ። በኋላም ንጉሱ እራሳቸው ለመበቀል ወደ ምፅዋ ሲያቀኑ ስዑል ሚካኤል ንጉሱን ለመግጠም አስቦ እንዳይሆን በመረዳቱ #ሰማያት በተባለው ተራራ ላይ ሰፈረ።

በኋላ ንጉሱ በአራት አቅጣጫ ተራራውን ሲከብበት ፈርቶ ከአንገቱ ላይ ድንጋይ አስሮ እድሜ ዘመኔን አገለግላለሁ አይግደሉኝ ብሎ ተማፀነ። መሳፍንቱ ይገደል ቢሉም በጀግንነቱ ሀገሪቱን ሊያገለግል ይችላል ብለው ተውትና ወደ ጎንደር መጦ ታሰረ።

ድንቄም ጀግንነት ቢገደል ኖሮ ሀገሬን ያደቀቃት ዘመነ መሳፍንት እዚህ ላይ ይሞት ነበር።

በኋላም ራስ ወልደ ልዑል የተንቤን ገዥ ሲሞት ይህ ውሻ ራስ ስዑል ሚካኤል ተብሎ ተሾመ።

በኋላም የአፄ በካፋ ሚስት የነበሩት እቴጌ ምንትዋብ ከአፄ በካፋ የእህት ልጅ/አንዳንዶቹ ወንድም ይሉታል #ከምልምል እያሱ በደብቅ ከወለደቻቸው ሶስት ልጆች (አልጣሽ፣ አስቴር ና ወለተ እስራኤልን) መካከል የኋለኛው አፄ ዮሐንስ ፬ኛን ቅድመ አያት አስቴርን አግብቷል።

ቀጥሎም አፄ እያሱ ፪ኛ ከየጁዋ ኦሮሞ የወለዱት የወለተ ቤርሳቤህ ልጅ አፄ ኢዮአስ ከአባታቸው ሞት በኋላ በ1748 በዚሁ በተንቤኑ ራስ ስዑል ሚካኤል እንደራሴነት ነገሱ።

ከየጁ እስከ 1ሺህ ፈረሰኛም አምጠው ጎንደርን የኦሮምኛ መንደር አደረጉት ህዝቡንም በጠበጡት። ያላዋቂ ሳሚ!

አፄውም እናታቸው በኦሮሞ ባህል ጠንቅቀው ስላሳደጓቸው ኦሮምኛ መናገር፣ የኦሮሞን ባህል ማንፀባረቅ እና የኦሮሞን እምነት የአቴቴ ቆሌና ዋቄፈታ ይታይባቸው ጀመረ።

ይህን ያዩ መኳንንት ከየአቅጣጫው ማጉረምረም ጀመሩ። ንጉሱም በእንደራሴው መብሸቅ ጀመሩ። አንድ ጊዜ ራስ ማሪያም የተባለ መሳፍንት ስለሸፈተባቸው ስዑል ሚካኤልን ተዋጋ ብለው ልከው በኋላ ስዑልን የሚዋጋ ጦር በድብቅ ላኩ። ትግሬው ራስ ስኡል ሚካኤል ግን ሁሉንም ድል አድርጎ ተመለሰ። ቂምም ያዘባቸው።

አፄ እዮአስ አማራ ሳይንት ላይ ራስ አስራት የሚባል ሹም ሊዋጉ ሔደው በቀሳውስት መሐላ ላይገድሉት ይቅርታ የጠየቀውን ሰው ቃላቸውን አጥፈው በሶስተኛው ቀን ሰቅለው ራሳቸውን አስቆርጠው ወደ አባይ ወንዝ አሰወስደው አስጣሉት።

ካህናቱና ራስ ስዑል ሚካኤል አዘኑ። እስከ ሶስት ቀንም ምግብ አልበሉም።

ከዛም ጎንደር ተመልሰው የራስ ስዑል ሚካኤል ወታደሮች ሳር በሚያጭዱ የንጉሱ ወታደሮች ላይ አደጋ ጥሎ አሸነፉ። በዚህ የተነሳ ከተበሳጩት ንጉስ ጋር ወደቤተመንግሥት ሄዶ ውጊያው ተጀምሮ ራስ ስዑል ሚካኤል አፄ ኢዮአስን ማረካቸው።

ካህናትና ህዝቡን ሰብስቦ መሐላውን ትቶ ነፍስ ያጠፋው ንጉስ ምን ይገባዋል ሲላቸው የሞት ምት ብለው መለሱለት። ከዛም ንጉስ በጥይት ተደብድቦ መሞት የለበትም ተብሎ #በሻሽ_ታንቀው_ተገደሉ።
የዘመነ መሳፍንት ፍሬም ከዚህ ላይ ተዘራ።

ከዚህም ባንዳው ራስ ስዑል ሚካኤል ምንም የማያውቁትን እንድ እጅ ቆራጣ የሆኑትን የአፄ በካፋን ወንድም የ70 ዓመት ሽማግሌ ከወህኒ አምባ አምጦ አፄ ዮሐንስ ፪ኛ ብሎ 1762 ላይ አነገሰ።

ቀጥሎም ዘመዶቹን እንደወያኔ በየቦታው እየሾመ ሀገሪቱን ተጫወተባት። ይባስ ብሎ ለንጉሱ መርዝ ከምግብ ጋር ቀላቅሎ በ1763 አስገደላቸው።

ተከትሎም ራስ ስዑል ሚካኤል በመርዝ የገደሏቸው የአፄ ዮሐንስ ፪ኛ የ15 ዓመት ልጅ በ1763 አፄ ተክለሃይማኖት ፪ኛ ብሎ አንግሶ አሁንም ስልጣኑን እንደፈለገ ተጠቅሞ ሀገሪቱን ተጫወተባት።

ይህን ያዩ በየቦታውም መሳፍት ሁሉ እየተነሱ አንድ እንደራሴ ሁሉን ማድረግ ከቻለ እኛስ እየሉ የራሳቸውን ግዛት መከለል ጀመሩ።

በዚህ ወቅት ራስ ስዑል ሚካኤል #ፋሲል የተባለ ሽፍታ በጎጃም/ዳሞት ነበርና እሱን ሊዋጋ ሔደ። ከዛም ፋጊት ላይ ከፍተኛ ጦርነት ተደርጎ 10,000 ሰው ከሁሉም ወገን አልቆ ፋሲል ተሸንፎ የቀሩትን ይዞ ሼሼ።

የትግሬው ስዑል ምርኮኞችን በጭካኔ ጨፈጨፋቸው። ምህረት ጠይቀው የገቡትን ቆዳቸውን ከነነፍሳቸው ገፍፎ ጭድ ከተተባቸው።

ይህን የሰሙ መሳፍንት የበለጠ በሱ በመከፋት ሐገሪቱን እየቆራረሱ መያዙን ቀጠሉበት። ከራስ ስዑል ጋር የነበሩት የጦር አበጋዞች #የቤተ_አማራዎቹ_ራስ_ጎሹንና ደጃች ወንድወሰንን ጨምሮ ከዱት። ህዝብም በጣም አዘነበት።

ከዚያም ከንጉሱ ጋር ወደትግራይ አቅንቶ የትግሬ መኳንንት ገፀበረከት ለንጉሱ እንዲያቀርቡ አድርጎ ወደጎንደር ተመለሰ። ቀጥሎም በሐሜት እገሌ እንዲህ ብሏል። እገሌም እንዲህ አድርጓል የተባለውን ሁሉ ጨፈጨፈ።

#ራስ_ጎሹም ገጠሙትና በ8 ቀን ጦርነት አሸነፉት። ራስ ስዑልን ማረኩትና አሰሩት። በአፄ ኢዮአስ ሞት የፈረዱትንም ሰቀሎቸው።

ስዑልም ተፈቶ አደዋ ሔዶ በ1772 ሞተ።

ከዚህም ውጥንቅጧ የወጣው ኢትዮጵያ ላይ አፄ ሶሎሞን በበ1770 ነገሰ።

ቀጥሎ በ1773 አፄ ተክለጊዮርጊስ ፩ኛ ነገሰ። ለሶስት አመታት ሙሉ ሽሽት መሳፍንትን ፍራቻ ሲያደርግ ቆይቶ በመጨረሻ በየጁው መስፍን በትልቁ ራስ ዓሊ ቤተመንግሥቱን ተቀምቶ ዘመነ መሳፍንት ውስጥ ተገባ።

የየጁው መስፍን ራስ ዓሊም ከነጋሲዎች ዘር ከወህኒ አንባ አምጥተው የይስሙላ ንጉስ አስቀምጠው ዘመነ መሳፍንት ላይ ሚጢጢ የጎንደር አካባቢን ለራሳቸው ቀሪውን ለመሳፍንት ትተው መምራት ጀመሩ።

ህዝቡም በደምበር አለፍክ ስም እየተላለቀ እስከ አንዳርጋቸው ካሳ አፄ ቴዎድሮስ ፪ኛ መነሳት ድረስ በዚህ መልኩ ቀጠለ።

ዘመነ መሳፍንት ራስ ስዑል እንደራሴ የሆነላቸውን የኦሮሞዋን የወለተ ቤርሳቤህን እና የአፄ እያሱን ልጅ አፄ ኢዮአስን ከገደለበት ጀምሮ እስከ መይሳው ካሳ ንግስና ለ86 ዓመታት ኢትዮጵያን አድቅቋት አልፏል።
ትግሬ ከድሮም ጥፋትን ተክኖበታል።

Wedi, thank you for your timely historical input on Ras Mikael Sehul.
Rightly, I should have used a different word other than the word "praise".
What I meant was to say, aboy Sibhat was good at reading the history of Ras Mikael Sehul
and copying it word for word in a modern setting.
There is no doubt "aboy" has acted and organized his politics more closely to a modern don of a mafiosi group,
complete with loyal families inter related by village tribe, blood and marriages with its own "Omerta" to keep the secretes within
the clan.
