Halafi Mengedi: is this true?

Post by Wedi » 26 Sep 2020, 21:56

The northern district of Hamassien, which, together with Seraye and Akele Guzai, makes up the central area of Eritrea, was part of the Aksumite Empire until the 8th century. An important Catholic mission existed there in 1869 and later an agricultural colony was set up at Shotil. A sizeable proportion of the populace is Muslim, although Christianity is the official religion. The strongest Eritrean opposition to control from Addis Ababa has historically been based in the Hamassien area. The region of Akele Guzai is specifically referred to in pre-Christian literature as one of three highland provinces of ancient Ethiopia. Close to Muslim areas and tribes of the Massawa region it was still loyal to Monophysite Christianity and its main language is Tigrinya. Originally Cushitic, its colonization by South Arabian traders and settlers led to an important infusion of Semitic culture and language. The area's influence, along with Aksum's, grew until the 7th century when the centre of power began to shift southward toward the Shewan region. Akele Guzai in more recent centuries was the subject of Catholic proselytization via the Portuguese, French and Italians.

Eritrea has had a long historical association with Ethiopia (at times called Abyssinia). Immigrants from the Hadhramaut (southern Yemen) settled the region beginning about 1000 BC. These people were the founders of the Aksumite empire and controlled the northern Ethiopian Plateau between the 4th century BC and the 7th century AD. Established sometime before the 1st century AD, the empire of Aksum (Axum) encompassed Eritrea, northern Ethiopia and parts of present-day Sudan, Yemen and Saudi Arabia.

That Ethiophile professor is not always a good source. If he couldnt give the credit to ethiopia, he would choose to give it to anybody but eritrea(ns)...even in what you quoted he is doing that.

Dooktuur Halafi is no better and only believes in Nayna...claiming everything is agames. So creating the thread & asking him is your indirect(Twey'y) way of linking/claiming the 2 different peoples??...
