Meles zenawi outsmarted Isaias Afwerki

Post by AbyssiniaLady » 12 Sep 2020, 14:06

Meles zenawi gives interview to VOA in 2000.

VOA: Mr. Prime Minister, I would like to raise the question of Assab, although I know you addressed this question repeatedly. Opinions expressed in some quarters say that as Ethiopia is now negotiating from a position of strength, she has to make sure that her right to use the port of Assab is respected, since failing to do so would nullify all the sacrifices paid. These quarters also say that in applying to Eritrea the OAU Charter principle that colonial boundaries that existed at the time of independence should be maintained, Ethiopia may also be considered a colonial power. Other opinion givers raise the question of Assab against the background of the recent controversy over supply of relief assistance through Assab. Your comment?

Meles zenawi: Well, talking about Assab the Ethiopian Government has repeatedly stated that Ethiopia has no wish whatsoever for forcefully occupying Eritrean territories. The question of forcefully occupying Assab is against international law. It is also against the principle and belief of the Ethiopian Government. So this is beside the point.

The point is that this matter should be perceived in light of the interests of Ethiopia and Eritrea. Well, if we make use of the Port of Assab, it is inevitable that we make payments for the Port owners in proportion to our utilization of the port and as long as we do so according to international law. So if we use the Port of Assab, the benefit is not only for us, but for Eritrea, too. On the other hand, if we decide against using Assab, then the fate of Assab would remain to be a mere source of drinking water for camels. I made this clear to the diplomats. No more, no less. If we do not use the port of Assab, then the Eritrean government won’t get a single cent from Assab.

How? Today the TPLF thugs are quarantined in Tigray and feeling claustrophobic. They just held a very stupid exercise which changes nothing. I don't see Agames celebraing. If anything, they are deflated because they have just realized that they are going nowhere. As Abiy said, once they run-out of the money they have stolen, they will be as destitute as they were before they went to Addis.

Meles zenawi sealed Assab and Massawa ports fate, then he threw Isaias Afwerki into Asmara open prison, And now Abiy Ahmed is trying to outsmart Isaias Afwerki, According to anonymous sources, Isaias Afwerki turned down a proposal by Abiy Ahmed federal government seeking to lease and build a new modern container terminal in the port of Assab..

Eritrea port activities.

Massawa two ships per week, one small oil tanker and one small ship cargo container.

Assab nothing.

Ethiopia needs and wants owns or lease Assab port, therefore, Eritrea has no other choice but to accept a long-term lease agreement with Ethiopia or else the fate of Assab and Massawa port will remain unchanged!!

You tigreans are the only once seem to be concerned about Eritrean ports, but Eritreans love the way things are. What meles chenawi did was a blessing in disguise... that Ethiopian and Eritrean have learned to live with closed borders and most Eritreans want it to remain for ever...
Trust me you are not going to find any Eritrean worried about our ports not utilized by your kinds, we Love them just the way they are...
If I was in charge even after the border opens raise the port services higher than Djibouti so you guys avoid our ports for cost reasonS
There’s a saying in Eritrea, nothing good comes from south of Mereb and closing the border is the best thing that our dictator has done.

1. Is that why Meles begged 40 times, for a face- to- face meeting with IA?

2. Is it smart to pay Djibouti billions, instead of paying Eritrea almost nothing? In which arithmetics school, is that an intelligent move? Btw Eritrea got that money from the UAE, which in turn got it from Djibouti when administrering its port. Djibouti as we know, got it from the weyane. So the money ended up in Eritrea's hands in a roundabout way, anyways.

3. Which smart person, let alone a PM, thinks camels drink highly salty sea water?
We'll turn Assab, into a watering- hole for camels!
Meles "bsbs" Zenawi

Etc....

Meles was always Tigray first and Ethiopia second.
Regarding the port this what Meles told the then American top spy

From Meles Zenawi’s interview with Paul Henze 1990

Meles Zenawi: There are different opinions on this, but we think that the whole population wants independence. They may not understand what it means. These people were once strongly in favor of unity with Ethiopia. The Shoan Amharas destroyed that feeling. The highlanders are getting more impatient than the leadership of the EPLF. Isaias sees problems in independence and does not want to rush and create difficulties for himself, but he doesn’t have full control over this issue.

Paul B. Henze: What would be your preferences?

Meles Zenawi:
We look at this from the viewpoints of the interests of Tigray first, and then Ethiopia as a whole. We would like to see Eritrea continuing to have a relationship with Ethiopia. We know that Tigray needs access to the sea, and the only way is through Eritrea. Whether Eritrea is part of Ethiopia or independent, we need this access and, therefore, must have close ties. There are many Tigrayans in Eritrea. They are concerned. They don’t want to be treated as foreigners there. There has always been close connections between Tigray and Eritrea for the highland people are all the same. They have the same history. We are worried about Eritrea because we are not sure that differences among different groups can be kept under control. Everything could be destroyed there if people begin fighting each other. When the EPLF takes over Asmara, they will have a difficult burrito, because they have to keep the people together. Some of the Muslims will favor separatism but there is no strength in unity among them on this issue. The ELF has no active strength in Eritrea now, but it still exists in Sudan and there are many Muslims who sympathize with it.

To me its amusing that Meles Zenawi was willing to pay much more for port services (spending money that Ethiopia can't really afford) in Djibouti just to spite Eritreans. The inferiority complex of the TPLF and their supporters is legendary and its exemplified by non other than Meles.

Your corrupt mind doesn't realize that Afars in Assab and in the whole of Eritrea fight a daily struggle to survive and their outlook for the future is increasingly bleak under Isaias Afewerki's rule, they worry a lot about what's happening to their region, Isaias Afwerki has deliberately destroyed lives and livelihoods of hundreds of families in Assab.
