Your uncles made an error when they singled out the Amharas were the problem. But even they had the wisdom not to mess with Amharic. It is a widely used language in Ethiopia. Knowing Amharic you could go to any major city in Ethiopia, and survive. You book your hotel. You order a meal in restaurant. Go to a bar and have drinks and make some conversation with patrons. The language is a valuable asset you have to use it to your advantage. Halafi, your uncles did not want to mess with it , so should you. The more languages one commands , the more opportunity opens to that person.

Amharic is a tribal language for the Amhara ethnic. If you call Oromo or Somali or Tigrigna and etc are tribal then Amharic is a tribal too like the rest of ethnic languages.
