Since Ethiopia and Eritrea started diplomatic relations, we see Ethiopia killing it's citizens. There were no mass killings for the last 27 years. There were imprisonments and tight media control. But no one was killed in Ethiopia. Now it has become a norm to kill a prominent figure every now and then.
The government kills these public figures to rule by fear. However, Ethiopians do not fear even if they were to be killed in millions. The killing of public figures makes Ethiopians angry, which sooner or later makes an armed struggle to overthrow the government possible. Ethiopians could get armed and kill the government authorities or their families.
Eritrea is killing these public figures in the hope to destabilize Ethiopia. If the government cannot guarantee the safety of citizens, then Citizens will be forced to defend their lives and the life of their country. Ethiopia should deport Eritreans and close the diplomatic mission of Eritrea in Ethiopia.
