Martin Plaut thinks the world is strange when it doesn't confirm to his crazy ideas

Martin Plaut is stunned. He thinks the relationship between Ethiopia and Eritrea is getting curious by the day.

Five years ago, Martin was flabbergasted by how quickly Isaias could find allies of opposite poles with nobody dissenting. Today the Houthis, tomorrow S. Arabia, the morning after Iran and then Israel. He was so stunned by all this that he wrote a book about it.

Today, five years later, he finds it curious how a president who was dead a week ago could make a quick trip abroad, and how his regime that was in tatters could a week later dominate the politics of Ethiopia.

It is not the world that is getting strange. The strange things are happening in Martin's head.

Isaias was not dead, hence no surprise in him making a short trip to Addis.
His regime was not in tatters, hence no surprise in him helping Abiy set his agenda
He never sided with Houthis, hence no surprise in him helping S. Arabia

Things would indeed be curious if Isaias was dead, yet made a quick trip to Addis
If his government was in tatters, yet dominated the politics of his giant neighbor
If he supported both Houthis and the Saudis and they were both ok with it
If he gave to both Iran and Israel, with none of them dissenting.

The mad man thinks reality is strange, when it refuses to confirm to his crazy ideas

When you're dead sure that Isaias is dead or in a coma or having a cognitive decline (Almaze), it becomes difficult to understand the world when you see him skilfully dominating the politics of his region. Isaias has no responsibility to enter into a coma just because you're convinced he is in a coma.

To stubbornly try to adjust reality to fit your lies is called madness
